Bike input device

The best input device is......

A bike.

[Porco Grande,

I am very proud to present level 3 of "PORCO GRANDE VR" after one and half year of work I have The VR experience I dreamed of.

Everybody who thinks it's a little bit high impact..... this is level 3 only for the initiated. Level 1 an 2 are a lot more relaxed.
The Game has had a few critics of being trippy or drugs induced. The only reason people think that is because archetype entity's have non archetype colours. If you can look past that then it's just a happy friendly VR game.
In this level I introduce The Church of VR and PORCO will make the Ten commandments soon

Thanks to you for your publicity!

Greetings Johan Pruys.

Porco Grande

“Porco Grande” is a game about a pig which is to fat. Every day he visits his girlfriend “Porco Cinne”. One day he finds out that he is too fat, to slow and to heavy for his car “Porc-Mobile” to fly.

“Porco Gande” still wants to visit his girlfriend “Porco Cinne” so he removes his engine from his car and he will pedal to “Porco Cinne”. When he arrives in time he will get a medal (bronze, silver, gold) a calorie score and a kiss from “Porco Cinne”.

On his way from his house to “Porco Cinne’’ he will meet several bully’s :

“Goaty, Crock, Cat, Goose”.

These bully’s he has to shoot of the road otherwise he will lose seconds.

FOODS

During his path to “Porco Cinne” he has to collect foods.

1. Good foods will make him faster and lighter.

2. Bad foods will make him slower and more heavy.

On the road are several check-points which give him extra time.

With enough pedaling/steering/flying and time left he will reach “Porco Cinne” and get his reward.

Game
The game “Porco Grande” is a happy fun game which plays inside a virtual world. The virtual world is realized with the “Oculus rift” and the “Cryengine”. The game is played on an exercise bike which is connected to a computer. So, in order to play, you sit on an exercise bike with a “Oculus rift” headset strapped on. During the game, you (the player) cycles, steers and look around. With the exercise bike controls and the “Oculus rift” you can shoot at the bully’s. The main experience of the game is:

1. To have a fun time inside a virtual world.
2. To have some exercise.
3. Give food advice.
4. To play a game.

Type of Game
The game can be played by people from 8 to 80. The game is a racing/vehicle game. That means that some virtual reality problems, like motion sickness have disappeared. E.G. cockpit games make you less easily sick.

The game “Porco Grande” is a game which helps subconsciously with several problems.
Problems like:

1. Lack of exercise.
2. Bad food habits.
3. Game addiction.

To play the game you have to bike and look around, grab good (virtual) foods and will be exhausted after a couple of levels so game addiction is automaticity solved.

Setup

The initial setup of “porco Grande” is an exercise bike, a “Oculus rift”, a powerful P.C. and the “Porco Grande” Software.
The future setup would be just a bike with glasses. The bike and glasses connect via WIFI to the internet. The game is rendered inside a cloud gaming service like “Steam” or “Gaikai” and handshakes with the player’s devices/virtual world. The game keeps track of high-scores every week and gives prices to subscripted users. Users who reach the TOP 10 will be given prices.

The game is aimed for people who cannot go outside or have health/mental problems and find relief in fun and exercise.

Greetings: “The Porco team”

I tryed it and it works!

I have created a bike, game and within two months I am playing my own prop cycle in VR!

Is the speed of your peddling linked to the bicycle speed in the game? If so, what device are you using to make that work?

I do have (well, my mother) an old "apartment bike" (thing for fitness you know ? I don't know how exactly you call that in english) that have a tachometer. Just a contact that is shorted each complete rotation of the main wheel.

I was thinking of counting that with an arduino, and sending the delay between two contacts via serial-usb. It will not be precise and you cant turn but maybe fun. And if you can do exercice in a more "interesting" environment that the place you do your sport it can be interesting. (well, was planing to let my DK1 plugged with that, and see if I can move inside of something like google maps or google earth (Flying bike ?). It would be more encouraging to lose fat that way xD

Putting a dynamo and mesuring the voltage would be better for an analog controll of speed, but I don't have that on hand

Have been pondering on a similar idea but with a kinect 2.0 gesture suite, good thing with kinect is the ability to measure muscle force and heart rate to calculate power/resistance and make the game adaptive like that
