Crescent Bay headphones a joke??

should not be attached where you can't use your own headphones..

personally earbuds are best like the Bose QC20 where it is active noise cancelling

its far superior than over ear because the bass is deep because of the seal

no overear as it heats up the ear as well

Also on ear is much more accurate than in-ear for HRTF because HRTF models are calibrated by recording from just outside the ear, in exactly the position that a driver like the Rift's is pointed at, not inside the ear canal.

Typical HRTF recording is done at the outer end of the ear canal. If you do it outside of the ear, then you won't be taking into account the effect of the pinna on directional sound.

That is still outside the ear canal, if you put on some on-ear headphones with the HRTF recording hardware the driver would be pretty much hovering just in front of the microphone. That is what you want, driver position complementing the microphone position. Just like you want HMD lenses right in front of where the virtual cameras are. In-ear drivers are much further in.

You could design earbuds that are a slightly better match maybe, but there is no such thing as an accurate earbud.

but the losses from sound leak out weigh inear slight inaccuracies by galaxies

plus inears at time feel like you are wearing nothing

its like super light clothing vs wearing heavy gear like full combat attire with body armor with overear

Recreating the recording mic's position is only one factor. Earbuds provide much better noise isolation and won't heat up/irritate your ears, arguably much more important than slightly less accurate positioning.

A proper VR headset just needs integrated, well-calibrated audio. It would simply be incomplete without.

The fact they are focusing on audio as much as they've recently announced is great news. It's key to integrate as many senses in the most believe fashion possible. It is just a prototype to get picky over aesthetics at this point is of no use. The main point here is the sound quality and comfort and it's great to have hardware that can be targeted for consistent performance.

Crescent bay certainly looks more comfortable to wear I like the bracing in the back. 360 degree tracking will help alleviate the stutter moments on the DK2 when you look too far behind. The headphones could look a little better or perhaps cup the ears to prevent background noise I'm sure these are planned with further polish towards consumer release. Either way rejoice that a great audio solution will likely be bundled!

if you heard what I listen to at home with the settings I have and hardware to use

    you would stop talking s*

I find in-ear headphones super uncomfortable. My ear canal gets all hot and steamy. Also, this is a prototype. We have no idea what kind of can is inside that super cheap foam. They're not going to spend money on custom tooling for the foam on a prototype

the Bose QC20 has an open style

it uses white noise to make it quiet

I think it senses the air pressure inside and adjust accordingly because when my first pair.. one side disassembled and when it was open it was a high pitch constant sound

its the same as when I pull and push the headphone on my ear
