I want to make clear that i'm far from being a Virtuix fanboy, they kinda failed to properly communicate on the developpement of their product (I did not manage to find a "developper blog" like there is for the oculus rift). It's just that a priori the Omni is the only one of those two products to have the main feature i look for : almost natural walking and running.

Seems like a beefed up version of WizDish (which I'm big fan of btw :P)

How is Virtualizer (or Omni) going to work with DK2 and it's positional tracking? It relies on the camera which obviously won't be in front of us at all times when we use these treadmills.

oculus claimed that DK was for sitted experience exclusively.

I proposed a modification to have the "motion controller" from the top, instead at from the front.
So, with some additional sensors, it would have been possible to recognize every head movment possible on an treadmill.
but it seems they are not interested

I like the idea, but that would be a feature for a small usergroup and they obviously focusing on the features for the large audiences. There are only so many geniuses to go around, so they likely have to pick their battles.

But I like the idea to have a cam above the player looking down!

I think Rift CV1 will have 360 positional tracking. It wouldn't just benefit ODT users, it improves the seated experience also. People are going to instinctively look around, over their shoulders, or swivel in their chairs, and it would break immersion if each time they did that they got a warning message or visual effect telling them to re-centre themselves. Having to repeatedly switch your control over viewing direction between head-look and other input like mouse or gamepad is too jarring, even with a snap-turn comfort mode.

Maybe Oculus haven't decided yet if they're going to add LEDs around the back of the Rift like Morpheus, or include 2 x cameras. Must be pros and cons with either approach. I feel that this (the DK2) is a stop-gap, so developers can carry on making games with better hardware. A software fix would probably enable full positional tracking for CV1, by updating to a complete LED head-mapped, camera tracked model. I would imagine that we'd get a third DK, or an extra camera, to make whatever adjustments are needed prior to consumer launch.

Hopefully we'll get some confirmation from Palmer/Cyber soon, because this speculation is too much for me

Just making it a software option would have been cool for everyone.

Oculus just said they are "targetting seated experience" which is totally different from what you suggest. Also I think you meant CV1 rather than DK ;) ;)

As for top down camera, I like the idea, but I'm not sure how this could be implemented without increasing unit's weight.

The camera would be the same.
You just need to tell her by configuration that its looking the rift from the top, and not from the front.

And then you would just need some support for it,
something like this :(imagine that there is not a lamp at the extremity, but a webcam)

and this support could be bundled with the virtuix omni or virtualizer.
