I never realized until yesterday...

I never realized how many crybabies are on the internet until yesterday. Wow. Now I feel kind of ashamed of being in the same group of people who were waiting for the Oculus Rift.

So many crybaby-hippy thinking- no global grown up kids out there. Get real please. Good intentions and a bunch of cash made off a kickstarters won't change the future. Solid cash will. Deal with it.

You think that fanboys who ready to swith sides in a drop of a hat aren't really worth anything? Because they're a herd that goes whereever it's guided, and will be guided back just as easily?

I read that a few times. But to put that into perspective, can you imagine what the reaction would have been, if they teamed up with valve? I think the overall reaction would have been 'awesome!'
"In a drop of a hat" implies, the cause was little.
Actually, it is one of the least attractive scenarios thinkable from a certain point of view (besides bancruptcy). Worst case. Not 'drop of a hat'.
As I said, if you just concentrate on the tech, than the more money, the better. Then the FB deal is great.

I don't know if they are easy to get back. But ignoring the emotional dimension of the matter will lead to wrong decisions while handling the situation.
The hatred that you see is not from some paid trolls that were advised to stamp on the competition. The guys that are yelling the loudest right now are the ones that feel the greatest pain because, their passion was the biggest. We're not dealing with enemies here. Were dealing with disappointment and disrupted expectations of close friends of the company.

Very well put, although as techies we don't like to think like needy or emotional people and are quick to bash those that are, it is true that those people that are making noise are those that were emotionally invested in the future of this product.

or perhaps some people may have had some experience in their lives with large corp takeovers/mergers etc and have heard all the platitudes about how nothing will change, how independence will remain, only to find out that is simply not true. Perhaps they have some life experiences and seen how badly these deals can turn out...Perhaps that may have something to do some of the apprehension. ...

I am pretty ambivalent about the acquisition.

It's actually a big deal what the regular fans think, because at the end of the day we are developing content for them. If they don't like Oculus and refuse to use the product, regardless of whether or not they have a justified reason to, its still going to have a negative impact on our content. There are already examples of this all over the game industry.

Whether we agree with the masses or not, we are content providers and therefore at the end of the day we are at their mercy.

It's been mostly a mixed reaction.

I've kept my pre-order I do want to work with the technology and see what I can do with it.
Just a little worried what facebook might be upto, it could be nothing as long as they leave the oculus rift alone to its own thing it'll be fine.

And once the feeling of betrayal has been calmed down and they see nothings really changed then it'll be fine.
Though I still have that bad feeling, it'll all depend in the coming months.
