Idea: A Ride

What I would like to see on the Rift is the idea of a ride. I want a virtual trip to a 'disneyland'. A way that anyone could put on the Rift and be swept away in the immersion and spectacle regardless of age or skill. Im thinking 'The Haunted Mansion'. I don't mean things popping out or exploding in your face while the camera is on rails forced down a hallway. Im thinking (at least at first) around a 3 minute story driven experience reminiscent of a film that you are living inside of.

For example (and please forgive these, i'm making them up off the top of my head):
-Being in the passengers seat during a car chase and your holding the bag of money. Your driver is injured.
-Being an astronaut/deep sea explorer landing, only to discover something alive is trying to get in your capsule .
-Being old, sitting in a chair, while moments of your life flood back in first person, and finding comfort in the good and bad times. (cheesy I know. haha)

What I mean is first person stores that have a narrative, around the length of a music video (or even could be a music video) to let people escape in another world without having them pick up a controller.

A VR cinema. Any thoughts?

    Every time I go to Disney World, I think about how great it would be if I could have the Pirates of the Caribbean ride all to myself for the evening. You know, hang out with the pirates and sing songs while having a few swigs of rum! Crazy I guess, but the Rift could make that happen. Good idea. ;)

    I think, if you want to see something like that in the rift, then go and design it! Refine it, keep improving it until it is absolutely amazing, produce a game design document, then try and find some devs that would be interested in doing it! Cine-gaming is going to be so great, being able to explore such a vast array of emotions, so the more projects like this people can design the better.

    Awesome! Ill check it out for sure. Im glad your taking this on. Your totally right, the more people that think the same way, the more likely Cine-gaming (nice word) will be something.

    Im posting my wants like this because im new to game design. Im in the television industry right now so I don't have much free time, but ive always wanted to learn modeling and game design. The Rift has given me the push to start. I started learning Blender, then moved to Maya and Unity, but the more I learn the more I realize its going to be a while before I will be able to do what I want to do. At the same time the more I learn the more it seems anything is possible.

    I just cant shake the thought of Pixar. They had a new medium in front of them, and instead of making tests like everyone else, they made the Luxo Jr. lamp short film. Give the test emotions and you have entertainment that people can connect with. Im just here dreaming big before my Rift arrives :)

    Now to go back to hitting every key on the keyboard in Maya until something does what I want. haha
