Idea of improvment.

_As we need More horizontal field of view, than vertical one.
_As the screen have to be splitted in two for each eyes.

Why not having the screen disposed vertically ?

So we would have
1080p*960 per eyes instead of 960*1080

That would be 10% more horizontal pixel, with the same screen.

If you split a FullHD after rotating it 90 degrees, you'll end up with two 540*1920 screens
If you want two 1080*960 screens side by side you'll need a 2160*960 screen to begin with - which isn't very standart :P

Alternatively: To use a FullHD screen rotated and splitted to get 1080*960 per eye: remove one of your eyes and reattach it above your other one - ask a good doctor for that and don't do it on your own!

 Yeah, surgery is the better option in this case, for sure! ;)

I love these humorous posts. Here is another one for your amusement:

    Another math wizard, I see...

Rotating a 1080p screen and then splitting it vertically will give 540x1920 per eye instead of the current 960x1080, giving even LESS horizontal FoV, not more as you claim.

And 90-degree rotation while using the same division it has now, but surgically repositioning your eyes to your nose and forehead positions to work with that configuration, would leave the perceived resolution unchanged, but would also play havoc on your depth perception when you remove your HMD, and may have social acceptance implications as well.

P.S. I always had perfect scores in my university advanced math classes, so unless I made an accidental typographical error in my post, arguing with me may remain pointless and futile.

Is there an optical solution to render each image rotated 90 degress, so that you render at 1080 horizontally ingame, but it's displayed vertically, then twisted use lenses and magic to look correct?

That could be what the OP meant

The correct answer is Pi! Mmmm....pi

Ah yeah, it could be done with coherent fiber optics. Or surgical modifications. Or perhaps psychotropics... :o

Here is a model showing the surgical method required for wearing a Rift "improved" with vertical alignment as suggested by the OP:

@Tgaud: We are not poking fun at you. We are just trying to figure out ways that your interesting idea could be implemented in the real world that has physics and maths and stuff.

Given enough mirrors, wouldn't rotating the current screen halves 90 degrees be technically possible? Obviously the HMD would be HUGE. :)

A better solution for a wider horizontal view is to probably just use THIS screen instead:

Relating scores in school to knowledge, cute. ^_^
