XD.

You are correct there, it would be pretty difficult to use that way.

And yes, the hydra is pretty good.

the only thing I miss about it compared to other vaguely similar devices is the rumble feature. - The complete lack of any haptic feedback makes certain things a little troublesome.

For instance, you can do pretty well using the system menus on a Wii by virtue of the fact that it rumbles when you cross the boundaries between two buttons.

I really wish it had that kind of feedback, but other than that, it's certainly the best motion controller I've ever come across.

I think this thread now is the definition of what the hydra 2 should be.

hydra 1 + headsensor and vibration.

Can someone please manufacture this?

I mean they have a guaranteed customer base of every rift customer out there!

Shouldn't be hard. - Look in the Sixsense SDK docs.

Rumble, wireless controllers, and up to 4 controllers per base station (as well as fully adjustable RGB lighting in the base station) are standard features that existed in the prototype and developer units for the hydra.
(Not to mention support for multiple frequencies so you can use multiple base stations.)
I can only assume features were cut mostly for cost reasons...

Sixsense could build a device like that right now, if anyone asked them to. (well, assuming they haven't got some kind of exclusivity deal with razer)...

So what is the deal with Razer Hydra, they are out-of-stock and have been for a month now! Something in the works?

Ships in 3-4 weeks

I bet the new hydra will have a third head mounted sensor... fingers crossed.

Back in December, when I thought I was getting the Rift, I started playing with the Hydra to get ready to develop for it. At that time i was playing with head tracking on a regular monitor, to create a virtual "window".

Looks like this technique (or something like it) is now used in the new iOS7!

I just hope they work with SixSense and make a Hydra VR Edition with 2 wireless hand controllers, one sensor embedded in the Rift and another wireless clip-on sensor that you can stick to a belt for torso tracking or to a foot pedal. No need for major hardware R&D, just some work on sensor fusion to merge in the magnetic tracking and accelerometer data and its done. Sell this Hydra in one package with the Rift and we're good to go.

I also like the idea of the Rift and the hands/controllers using the same positional tracking. I outlined an idea in this thread that would use wristbands, but controllers would work as well as long as it's unified with the Rift. One of the issues with the Hydra Tuscany demo is that my hands were never quite where they were in real space because there was no relation from my head to my hands.
