Proof of concept ODT.

08-09-14 UPDATE:

Done with summer activities.
Top motion platform , support hardware and resistance pole working as intended.
Bottom platform....it is working ...but not exactly how I want it to perform. Took it apart in order to improve ergonomics of it. Testing few other thing to improve slide/ rolling function. It will take shape of a dish and should be more slippery.
Side notes:
After running COD4 for about 20 minutes I released... I got to get in better shape in order to enjoy this type of activity.
For best experience head have to be decoupled from hands/gun for better immersion.....
Cardio is intense

Image is a bit outdated ...bottom platform looks different now.

a very light aluminium pole thats rotating, ideally on roles, around the outer radius.
It would be connected to another horizontal aluminium pole(those are very, very light) that is otherwise connected to your back in conjunction with a climbing seat belt( like a aluminum monkey tail).
Additionaly the horizontal pole could shift up and down the vertical pole so that you would be also able to crouch.

I don't like the idea of having to drill holes to fix something to the ceiling, I don't like the idea of requiring the right ceiling height to fit the treadmill, I don't like the idea of not being able to move the treadmill around because it has to be placed just under the part that has been fixed to the ceiling, and I don't like the idea of the whole ceiling part (including part of the ceiling itself) dropping from the ceiling and flattening me if I get it done wrong...

But I do like the idea of removing the need for a protection ring (by replacing it with a pole and harness), so I am able to crouch properly and still be free to move my hands in front of me, instead of having to lean over a protection ring to pretend that I'm crouching (which doesn't sound immersive to me), as long as the pole used to replace the circular protection ring is clipped into the base of the treadmill (with no hole drilling required) instead of fixed to the ceiling.

    Hello community!
I'm glad to see that this odt created positive interest.
Holidays , bills and weather kept me pretty occupied with other issues but I'm steadily getting ready to acquire hd kit and do video demonstration with real gear.
Meanwhile wanted to give a little update on my progress.

Finished a solution on providing continuous "semi wireless" main power supply to "rig" ( all devices that need 120v don't need to be recharged in order for user to use them while operating odt)

Testing few other weight resistance solutions to reduce noise while operating rig.

And the most important task I'm dealing with is comfort improvement. From early childhood our body is conditioned to handle the force of gravity in our feet and use pelvic area more of the balancing solution. I'm working on solution to be able to use this odt for more than an hour with out discomfort.

In regards to ceiling mount or "tripod" supported platform at this moment I don't see other solution.... unless we want to give up on possibility to rappel face down from a virtual cliff or do a round house kick in some virtual dojo.

    Good luck!

I think what would be good would be a simple, low cost device, not taking up much space either. This guy seems to be moving forward by registering pressure, basically treading on the spot. Could perhaps be a start of something with a bit more work:

Great idea and reminds me of Wizdish w/o camera tracking. Still I'm not sure how I can utilize "wizdish" type odt to experience as much as possible immersion in something like this:

There is way more we can "experience" from "base jump" type of games....shuffling is cool but not for this.
