Reverse Kinematics Augmentation

An exoskeleton should be developed for the entire human frame that allows the wearer to experience the experience of resistance from the virtual objects that they're experiencing. This should be modeled after what has been shown from the youtube video and should be built in stages starting from the arms then encompassing the entire human frame. Doing this would lead to total immersion into the virtual world and would allow for a greater degree of expression from game developers. Imagine being able to feel a sword in your hand and armor against your body and to experience the feeling of running with all of that extra weight. The walking and running aspect of a project such as this would be accomplished by having the wearer suspended from the ground and connected to a large robotic arm that would allow the wearer full degree of freedom to walk, run and crawl or whatever other action that the game called for.

I'd like to start such a project and be apart of its creation. I think a project like this is possible and would be an excellent next step in professional gaming.

    I share a similar vision. It would be amazing! I (and a few other people here) am currently working on gloves as I feel that is the most crucial part. I plan on having arms too though probably, and I guess naturally that continues on to legs etc. The only problem I can see is cost and strength of actuators(or equivalent) and materials (Arms/Legs produce a pretty large amount of force) but those definitely don't mean it can't be done. I like the idea of being suspended, it would remove the need for any omni-directional treadmill and the like.

    I think a form of hydraulics in combination with actuators would be the strongest method, with hydraulics for the simple movements and the actuators for the fine motor skills. That should give the system durability and would limit the motion to the set degrees of rotation of the human body; I think it's important that any virtual feedback system cannot rotate past the limits of the human body because any errors in programing would lead to very messy situations.

    @geekmaster, All of those links are awesome and very informative.

    I think 3d printing would be a very good method of making this possible, where the initial design for the R.K. gauntlets can be prototyped and the simplest and most efficient design can be developed. I'm hopefully getting one soon and thinking of printing a few faceplates for the O.R. I will keep you updated.

    a good vibration in a good timing is powerful enough for a while.. i only glanced at the word hydraulic.. so i'm seeing some nice and dangerous images..

    *edit* i read more and am thinking it would like iron-man if there were room in the suit for a person.. which has me thinking it would help restrict my melee.

    sew some old phones with vibrate function into a suit and network them?
