Rift Ray-tracing

[EDIT] This now has a demo, but I'll keep the link here up to date.

Download demo
(Updated to 12 Meg. Ver 0.50 on the Twentieth of June in the Year Twenty-Thirteen)).

Hi All,

I haven't got my Rift yet (UK near the end of the Kickstarter), but have been following the goings on with interest.

I've started to have a go at doing some CUDA based ray-tracing for VR and have managed to get some basic stuff going.

Rather than warping a resulting image I've made a start at modeling the lenses in the ray projection code.
(no texturing or shadows yet, just trying to get the distortion and stereo going.)

This is what I've got so far. It's probably waaaay out, but until I get my one, I'm flying blind. :D

Note: It's a bit wide to see in the post, you may need to open the image in another tab to see the entire screen.

Well, that version is working for me (the guy failing at Step 3/17).... 15 frames per second.

Did you download the 300kb version posted just above? If so it has logging in the render loop, so will be dog slow, it was only meant for CyberReality. (Also you'll probably have a 50MB file with CPPLog.txt  )

If you re-download the original full install it will have the fix to let you run it, but without the render logging.
On a GTX 470 I'm getting 60-100 FPS, so 15 FPS is a little low. But hey, at least it runs. :)

Yea, figured it was something going on with the logging since it ran as fast at 2560x1440 as at 1280x800.

July 6, eh? Yeah, I'm from "The States" (but then so is this forum). I usually use dates of the (sortable) form YYYY-MM-DD (even on legal documents) myself, just to avoid such confusion. But when anybody places the year at the end, around here MM-DD-YYYY is the norm, so the "year last" date format that you used in your file name can cause international confusion and profound mayhem.

For timestamps in an international forum such as this, I recommend using the YYYY-MM-DD format, to avoid confusion about which download is actually the latest (important when file timestamps only show when a file was downloaded)...

The demo still runs slow on my lowly GTX-260, but at least it works.

I suggest you stick some advertising billboards on those black outside walls. :D

Definitely helped me focus on the image comfortably by lowering the distortion value to somewhere in the 0.90 range.

I believe I am having the same problems as cybereality. CPPLog gets to step 17, NetLog gets to step 13. This is with your most recent code.

Running Windows 7 64 bit, Phenom 2, two Geforce gtx560 ti (sli currently disabled).

Can you download this: Download 300kb same deal as before, unzip over the existing files. post the log step CPPLog.txt dies at please.

This is a more detailed log that shows the render loop, which is not good for those that can run it, but for the ones that crash should give a clearer picture.
