Viiwok - Virtual treadmill & reality simulator.

Hi all, I'm a young systems engineer from Spain with a passion for architecture, topography, surveilling, photogrammetry and gaming.

In about 2 weeks I'll be launching an IndieGogo campaign (I'm european so I can't submit projects for KickStarter) for a similar product, a treadmill simulator that would have the added advantage that all the sensors would be built in (walking, turning, jumping, crouching) at 120 Hz response frequency (basically zero latency/lag, the same you have from using a keyboard/mouse combo).

You wouldn't need a Kinect or a Hydra at an added cost and you wouldn't need to wear those Virtuix special shoes to be able to slide, like in the Virtuix or the cvasi-walk like with the WizDish. You'd be able to crouch properly, instead of bending. You'd be able to sit down when you get tired after all that moving around.

The system is natively compatible with any platform - Windows, Mac OSX and Linux are supported out of the box, no special drivers needed, you plug it in and it's set to go. And most of all, the price would be around 250€.

The concept is orientated towards virtual exploration and tourism (real monuments, historic sites and other places of interest modeled and rendered using powerful gaming engines like the CryEngine) but FPS gamers would find it quite tight in addition to the Oculus, whenever the latter will be launched. Until then, players would be able to shoot ahead without an Oculus, using a normal monitor screen or a HDTV, since everything would be motion ready and fitted with all the necesary sensors.

Stay tuned for more details.

Youtube demos to follow and other details on http://www.viiwok.com during the next few weeks.

If I were you, I would also post about the Viiwok in the Meant to be Seen forums. A lot of people go there:

The Oculus subreddit is also a good idea:

Oh, and when you're ready to announce the crowd funding campaign here, you should do it in the General Discussion subforum ( https://developer.oculusvr.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=26). Very few people visit this one (Input Devices).

you may find that shipping such a large item directly to US customers is going to be extremely expensive. I bought a motion simulator seat from the US a couple years ago and the shipping was $750.

Since the US is both a huge market and sensitive to shipping costs, you should find an american distributor sooner rather than later. So the number of sales you need to make a distribution deal worth it should be figured into your funding goal.

Oh and before I forget please send me a paypal invoice and SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY. Because this sounds amazing. Oh and I like your name, bro.

Lol, at first I thought someone's trolling me. I'm using this nickname on a number of forums since at least 2003 and on mIRC before that. I got it from The Neverending Story. Your's from the hardcore band I presume?

About your suggestions, first of all thank you. I will give it serious thought. So far the priority is to get it done and figure out the best way to promote it simultaneous with the campaign. IF ! it's successful, everything will come natural and at a more relaxed pace - distribution network and everything else. I have a big problem not being able to Kickstarter it, although I'm positive it's better in any way compared to the Omni, not to mention the price which basically includes a Kinect-like sensoring device.

In fact, I'm already working on a motion detecting system that would be half the price of a Kinect and do what a Kinect, Hydra AND Oculus do for about 200€ - 400€ for the whole package including the Viiwok - which would essentialy be a complete VR system. This summer will be full of nice surprises for you guys if I'll be successful with this campaign.

Fingers crossed, a big week starts, hopefully I'll be able to show something more tangible for my work except my posts.

My project is not competing with the Virtuix Omni, it's just a better alternative.

 Thanks for the laugh! ;) ... I will follow new informations. Good luck!

Nope my name is from the never ending story as well. I usually use Atreju (the original name) but sometimes use Atreyu (english version) on international boards. Ive been using it on the internets since 96. Ha!

Yet it's true. I don't know if it would be successful enough to warrant its development though. You can't try to beat Microsoft at their own game using 10.000€ earned on IndieGoGo.

It seems like it would be a KickStarter campaign. I've managed to solve the issues stopping me from applying. My guess date is next Monday.
