Coming Soon: Interacting with CodeBlocks in Desktop Editor

How to Interact with CodeBlocks in Desktop Editor

We hear your enthusiasm for accessible scripting and we are looking into ways to interact with CodeBlocks directly from the Desktop Editor. For now, we have a read-only version of the VR CodeBlocks viewer coming soon:

Let us know what you would like to see in terms of CodeBlocks features for the Desktop Editor, to help drive our feature prioritization.

Also since there is a typescript AI generator, an codeblocks AI generator would be a game changer for beginner scriptors and those who arent so savvy at scripting. The biggest setback alot of creators have is the difficulty of coding.

    Hello everyone!

The read only CodeBlock viewer should be now enabled in Worlds Desktop Editor.

Can you try clicking on a CodeBlock Script Gizmo in the Desktop Editor and looking for the "Open Script" button in the properties tab on the right?

    Thank you

I don't know if it's true but I saw that CodeBlocks will eventually be deprecated... a CodeBlock to TypeScript converter might be in order as well.

It really isn't practical. The logic you would take in codeblocks is not the same logic you would take in TypeScript. Your codeblocks shouldn't ever stop working though.

    Hello all,

It is true that the logic is a bit different, but it is possible to convert CodeBlock to working TypeScript. We are working on the best way to implement this and can give more updates when things are confirmed.

    Thank you

We know it is possible as we already have at least one community-sourced precedent for it.

I ONLY script in codeblocks. The visual nature of the method, drag and drop, and color scheme really taps into the creative, visual side of my brain. Being able to script IN HEADSET in the VR space, totally immersed in the creative process has ALWAYS been what set Horizon Worlds above the competitors and what keeps me building. Sure, playing games in VR is really cool, but BUILDING WORLDS in VR in headset with very powerful codeblocks is the #1 reason many incredible creators are still on the platform. SAVE THE CODEBLOCKS!

Hi SyBorgVR... do you find there are things you cannot do (or do well) using strictly CodeBlocks? I seem to be running into things that I feel like I can't do in CB, so I have to start looking at TypeScript to get it done. How do you manage that?

There's a load of stuff you cannot do in CB, they just don't support it with new features anymore. TS is the future and sadly its learn or stick with the basic.
Theres always people to help/do/commission, but there is no avoiding it. TS will get all the cool stuff, like Custom UIs, you cant do those in CB
