Question

Best Glove 3d models assets and tutorials?

My entry for Meta VR Start Developer is heavy on hand-tracking. I want to introduce different hand models that are available for in-app purchase. Are there any good assets and tutorials I can follow to allow this feature?

A solid starting point is the Meta XR Interaction SDK samples, since they include hand-tracking visuals you can use as a reference for swapping in your own skinned hand meshes. For tutorials, Valem and Dilmer Valecillos have Unity hand-tracking videos worth checking, and if you buy models from the Asset Store or Sketchfab, double-check the license allows you to resell them as in-app purchases.

Thanks for the reply! I'm using Claude Opus 5.5 and I was quite surprised how well it could model its own gloves and import them into Unity seamlessly. I'll still take a look at Valem's and Dilmer's tutorials, maybe I can learn a thing or two!

Meta provides royalty free hand models that are already rigged with the same bone setup as the Quest drives, so the easiest way to create variations, whether you're doing that yourself or delegating the work, is to load those GLBs up and modify them. I started out by modifying the skinning slightly, as I discovered the tips aren't weighted entirely to the last bone, causing fingers to sometimes appear too short, making the tips not touch in VR when you touch them together in real life. The other thing you may also want to start out with is tweaking the vertex positions and weights a little to work better with dual quaternion skinning.

It's also pretty easy to up-res the mesh a little if you want the hands to look smoother!
