My Meta Account Is Locked Due to Two-Factor Authentication – No Access to My Old Phone Number and No Alternative Verification Options

October 31, 2026

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping someone from the Meta team can help me resolve an account recovery issue that I’ve been unable to fix.

I have been locked out of my standalone Meta Horizon account because two-factor authentication (2FA) requires a login code to be sent to a phone number that has been permanently disconnected.

Here is what happens when I try to log in:

  1. I enter the email address associated with my account.

  2. Meta sends a verification code to my email, which I successfully enter.

  3. After verifying my email, I am redirected to a screen requiring a login code to be sent to my old phone number.

  4. Unfortunately, there is no "Try another way" option or any alternative verification method available.

I no longer have access to the registered phone number, and my mobile carrier is unable to recover it. I also do not have a headset that is still logged into my account to approve the login request.

I have tried to resolve this through my Instagram settings, but I cannot change or disable the associated two-factor authentication settings.

I also contacted Meta Support, but I was redirected to the relevant Help Center, which instructed me to select "Try another way" or approve the login request using a headset that is already logged in. Unfortunately, neither option is available to me.

I still have full access to the email address associated with my account and can successfully verify my identity through it. I am also willing to provide any reasonable information necessary to establish account ownership.

Is there a Meta Community Manager or someone from the account recovery team who could help manually verify my ownership and reset the two-factor authentication on my account?

I am not asking to bypass account security. I simply need an alternative way to prove that the account belongs to me, as the only available verification method is no longer accessible.

I have reached a complete dead end with the standard account recovery process. I sincerely hope someone can look into my specific situation rather than directing me back to the same instructions I have already tried.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance. I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance from the Meta team.
