Question

QR code recognition is not working properly on the new version of Meta Quest.

I recently updated my Quest 3 to version v83, and since then, the app that handles QR code recognition has stopped working correctly. I tried reinstalling the app and a few other basic troubleshooting steps, but it still fails to recognize any QR codes. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue with v83? If someone has found a solution or workaround, I would really appreciate hearing how you resolved it.

Hi there MRSystemForRadiopharmaceutical!

I understand you're having trouble getting your QR codes to be detected since you updated to v83. Just to make sure I understand correctly, are you referring to the Track QR codes in MR Utility Kit feature? If so, would you mind telling me a little more about the issue you're experiencing, like were you able to get it working prior to the update and how are you trying to use it in your app?

If this isn't the feature you're referring to, please feel free to elaborate!

Yes, that’s correct — I’m referring to the “Track QR Codes” feature in MR Utility Kit. Before updating to v83, it was working normally. My app simply detects a QR code and displays an object positioned on top of it, but after the update it no longer recognizes the QR code.

Understood, thanks for clarifying!

Since you mentioned things were working fine before the update, and now it's not working, it wouldn't be a bad idea to file a bug report within your Developer Dashboard. You can do this by navigating to the dashboard, selecting the "Get Help" button at the top of the screen, and selecting "Report a Problem".

That feature is still considered as experimental, so your feedback is very much appreciated! Additionally, I'm not sure if you've seen our documentation yet but we do have some resources that cover how to implement this feature. I linked it in my previous reply, but I'll link it below just for visibility. I'd suggest checking it out just to make sure you can't find a solution in there.

Hope this helps, and please feel free to let me know if you need any other assistance!

v83 has effectively bricked all of my link based testing. I can build and deploy with no issues, but I can't test. it just locks me at a Unity start screen in Link. As you pointed out, there's a disconnect between the Link version and the SDKs, which as far as I know, are all still at v81.

I don't know what platform you're using, but I can tell you that there's something wrong with v83 at least in Unity, hopefully only because of this discrepancy.

May be try this
https://github.com/xrdevrob/QuestCameraKit

and see if the QR code tracking is working or not and replace the logic if it's working.

Current behavior summary:

When pressing the Request button in the MRUK QR code sample, something seems to fail, but if I toggle QRCodeTrackingEnabled? ON/OFF afterward, QR codes are recognized correctly.

changing TrackingEnabled inside QRCodeManager does not reproduce this behavior, and after performing Request once, recognition works even after restarting the app.

aside from this, everything behaves the same as it did in v78.

additionally, if the HMD stays offline for a certain amount of time, QR code recognition stops working entirely—are there any solutions other than keeping the device online?

I ran the MRUK sample code that includes the updates made in v81, and after that the QR code recognition started working again.

You can check out the mitigating fix here

https://github.com/oculus-samples/Unity-MRUtilityKitSample/issues/15

TLDR: There's an issue in the OS only affecting managed devices in shared mode. Until we figure out the fix, you can follow the instructions in this thread to unblock you.
