Quest 3S v2.5 update broke WebXR/WebGL: render init fails in Browser (regression)

Hello,

I am reporting a regression introduced by the July 8, 2026 software update

on Meta Quest 3S (OS v2.5, build 3594280027800610).

Summary:

A WebXR streaming web application (NVIDIA CloudXR.js web client, WebGL-based)

that had worked reliably for several weeks now fails immediately when

connecting, with the error:

failed to create CloudXR session: Error: Failed to initialize WebCL render

The failure occurs during the client's local render-context initialization,

before any network session is attempted (confirmed: the streaming server

receives no connection attempt).

Evidence that this is a headset-side regression:

- The same URLs work correctly in desktop Chrome on the same network,

so the server stack is healthy.

- The app worked on this same headset until the July 8 update.

- Tried on the headset: private tab, full reboot, clearing browser data —

same failure. Wolvic on the same headset also fails, which may point to

an OS-level graphics/WebXR runtime change rather than the browser alone.

Questions:

1. Did the v2.5 update change WebGL/WebXR context creation behavior?

2. Is there a rollback option or an ETA for a fix?

This blocks an active university robotics research project (VR teleoperation

data collection). Related public threads:

- NVIDIA forum: https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/376238

Thank you,

This sounds like a platform regression rather than an application issue. Since the failure happens before the client even attempts to connect to the CloudXR server, and you've reproduced it in both the Meta Browser and Wolvic after updating to v2.5, it points toward a change in the Quest WebGL/WebXR graphics stack. I don't think there is a supported way to roll back the headset OS. I'd recommend filing a bug with Meta and including the headset build number, browser version, and the exact error (Failed to initialize WebGL render) along with your NVIDIA forum thread. That will give the engineering team the information they need to investigate.

Wrong place for reporting this.

Report it in the headset Quick Settings->"Report headset issue"

Also open a ticket in the Developers Feedback Center.
