Stuck at SMS verification - no code received for Facebook Developer account

Hello everyone,

I am trying to create a new Meta for Developers account, but I have hit a major roadblock during the SMS verification step and could really use some community advice.

The Issue:
When I enter my phone number (+81) to receive the 6-digit verification code, the SMS never arrives on my phone.

What I have already tried (to rule out basic issues):

  • Waited 24+ hours between attempts
  • Confirmed my number is correct with the country code
  • Checked that my phone can receive SMS from other services and that I don't have unknown senders blocked
  • Tried on different browsers (Chrome, Firefox), incognito mode, and a different Wi-Fi network
  • Restarted my phone

The new problem:
After several attempts, I am now seeing a warning that says: "You may want to slow down or stop to avoid a restriction on your account. We limit how often you can post, comment or do other things in a given amount of time." I have stopped all attempts to avoid making it worse.

My question:
Since I cannot even complete the sign-up process, is there a specific support email or form I should use to contact someone directly about this? Or does anyone have a known workaround for this type of SMS block?

I am not trying to spam or create multiple accountsโ€”I just genuinely need to get started as a developer and am stuck at this first hurdle.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, Iโ€™m experiencing an issue with Meta for Developers SMS verification.

Iโ€™m in India. The 6-digit SMS verification code never arrives for my developer account.

I have already added and verified the same phone number through Meta Accounts Center. I receive verification codes through WhatsApp and email successfully, but the Developer registration page still requires an SMS code, which never arrives.

I have tried requesting the SMS again and waiting, but still receive nothing.

Is there any way to reset the Developer account verification or use an alternative verification method?

Hi, I was also having this issue. Out of desperation, I asked the Meta AI, and it suggested adding a credit card to my account through Meta Business Suite (https://business.facebook.com/latest/billing_hub/payment_settings/). Once I did that, I went back to the registration page, the SMS verification step had been bypassed, and I was able to create an account. You may have to remove other two-factor authentication methods (including SMS) on your account for it to work.

Hi! I'm having the same problem.

I recently created a Facebook account to develop an Instagram bot. My Facebook account works fine, but Meta for Developers says it detected unusual activity and asks me to verify my account.

I've tried both SMS and WhatsApp, but the codes never arrive. I even have Google Authenticator enabled.

I understand the need for security, but why is there no other way to verify my account? I'm just trying to use the official API for my work, and I can't even get started.

It's really frustrating. I wish Meta would give developers a clear way to fix this.

Well, you won't get any official answer here because this is the wrong Meta site. This site is for virtual reality devs, not Facebook or Instagram devs. Two completely different ecosystems.
