Question

Shadow bleeding between modular road components

Hello,

how to get rid of this lines and shadow bleeding between modular road parts?

example, big one is scale = 1. Small is scale = 0.1

example in wireframe view:

example of line between parts:

It's made of 3 parts, when I set parts in bigger distance shadow bleeding disappears, but still I have ugly shadows in the curved road:

The same model looks OK in Unity:

How can I fix this?

Worlds uses verts to add lighting information.  So any overlapping verts will render as if they are in shadow. So where your pieces meet try to offset the verts where you can or merge by distance.  Another thing I've noticed is it does the same shadow effect for verts with multiple edges that terminate at them, I think some call them spokes.

Here's a link to the topology best practices documentation that mentions it: https://developers.meta.com/horizon-worlds/learn/documentation/custom-model-import/creating-custom-models-for-horizon-worlds/best-practices

Hope this helps.  👍

Too bad, I thought I'd be able to build a level from individual parts I downloaded from https://kenney.nl/assets/ in the Desktop Editor. But it looks like I need to assemble the models in Blender, fix the topology, export them as a single model, and then import that model into the Desktop Editor.
