Horribly slow fps on galaxy s8

As stupid as it might sound, we are getting incrementally worse performance for our GearVR app on Samsung Galaxy devices. s6 performs the best at ~60fps, s7 at ~57-60 and s8 at ~25-30. We've tried unity versions 5.6.0f3 and 5.5.1f1 with similar results. We have also tried Oculus Utilities v1.13.0 and v1.14.0. Has anyone else faced similar issues?

The profiler shows substantially high amount of time for Camera.Render for s8(~12ms) than s7(~3-4fps).

Just an update: The newest Unity patch (5.6.1p3) seems to have fixed this issue according to their release notes. I haven't gotten a chance to check it myself yet though. It'd be great if someone can test it out and confirm.

Do you know where in the release notes it mentions a performance fix?  Is it this one:  "Android: Changed threshold to recognize big cores of ARM big.LITTLE architecture better." ?

@parthdarji  & @drash

That's the fix we were talking about for 5.6.  I can confirm the the Big.LITTLE core is correct now on S8 Qualcomm with 5.6.1p3

I’ve tried the fix in Unity 5.6.1p3 and the results
were very positive. In the (menu, atrium, corridor) scenes, the framerates went
from (40, 30, 35) to (60, 40, 50), a significant improvement. Also the
framerates were much, much more stable instead of jumping all over the place,
and the profiler gives more understandable results. The fact that it doesn’t
fully reach 60 yet may be due to Unity 5.6 performance issues which prevented
us from upgrading to it earlier, so I’m eagerly awaiting the 5.5
release on wednesday hoping it will resolve the issue for us fully.
