How to export an executable from Unity 5 for the Oculus Rift

"Oculus recommends using Unity 5.1.1p3 and the Utilities package."

After importing the Utilities Package and exporting with VR support checked or unchecked I get this 'non vr' menu.
What is the deal? Am I supposed to see the Oculus Rift in the 'select monitor' list? My old direct to rift apps from Unity 4 are still working but I can't get anything that I export from Unity 5 to work.

    @cyberReality even i am facing the same problem as kevingulling . i am not getting VR effect when i export it from unity 5.1.2f1 . i even tried with 5.1.2p3 the result is same , no VR effect.

    when i run with unity 4.6 its working fine. can you give me any suggestions to make work with unity 5.1.2f1 ??

    when i run the unity 5.1.2f1 exported app in direct mode, the rift stays in orange colour

    I don't see a clear error in the logs, but I do see you're on an Optimus laptop. Unfortunately, laptops (especially with Optimus) are unsupported and may not function. Sorry.
