PTC v55 Release Megathread

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v55 is starting to roll out for Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 soon. Thanks everyone for all your feedback on our previous builds, we several bugs were identified in the last PTC and the solutions for some have shipped, while others are on the way!

Let's use this thread for collecting feedback on v55. Share your impressions and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting here if you notice anything going wrong.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

Having more Link Sharpening choices is nice, but the Quality is only very slightly better than "off."  I'd personally rather have a bit more.  We should really get a slider or value to input.

On the HMD/Standalone side, I get slight headstutter when I first put on my headset every ~4 seconds, but it settles down eventually.

After update to v54 continuous guardian instability, periodically loosing tracking and changing hight randomly. I've updated to particular v55 PTC yesterday and having the same instability issues.

Update: It seems controllers re-pairing fixed the problem, now v55 is running good.

The rainbow pixel issue is back in the latest build.  So I got the VERY first v55 build the other day and things seemed to clear up quite a bit.  yesterday i noticed that the icon for the unknown apps drop down was gone and the flashing pixels are back too. First v55 i had still had the icon and the rainbow pixels was better.

Not sure what happened but v55 on the day of release ran MUCH smoother than now. Was there an update to a newer build?

Update on the pixel issue on the right side of the FOV.

I just installed the latest beta 1.27 (pc streamer and apk) of VD.

I set the codec to H.264+ and the rainbow pixels disappeared again.
Depending on my PC hardware configuration
I found the square in terms of fluency by setting a fixed Bitrate to 200Mbps, 90fps and High as the setting.
I can easily play all ultra resolution games smoothly.
I can also play by pushing it a little harder and cranking the bitrate up to 250 and setting ultra to VD, but there is some stuttering here.

That said and going back to the pixel issue, in my case it seems that using H.264+ is making a difference (I used to use HEVC before).

I would encourage all members to continue doing some experimenting and reporting back so the development team can adjust where needed.

Hi Ryanality

I am regularly factory resetting my device to do various tests, and every time I do the device has to be manually re-enrolled in the public test channel via the meta app... while it is usually successful, I do occasionally get the error message saying the PTC is full and to try again later

is there a way for me to factory reset my PTC device and reliably stay in the PTC on the next setup?... i know i will be able to get in eventually, but i'd like it to be 100% successful within reason... like, say, the device can get back into the PTC as long as I re-enroll within a certain time limit of the factory reset (an hour? 24 hours?)

Hi, on v55 and getting a nauseating wobbly passthrough issue no matter what the lighting and on both my AC & AX WiFI networks. I've tried factory resetting, going back to v54 and back again to v55 but the issue persists. I made a post on Twitter asking if anyone else has the issue and so far two people have confirmed they also have this problem. There's also a video of the issue there on my Twitter post:

It's like tripping on acid while trying to set a boundary, quite disorientating!
Does briefly disappear if I reset the headset but within a few minutes its back again.

Here are two others who have the same issue:

I watched your video - could it be a camera lens that needs cleaning?

I did give them a quick wipe just in case but when I reverted back to v54 the issue went away, it also goes away briefly after a reboot. It has only appeared since updating to v55 and I've never seen anything like it in all the time I've owned Quest (day one).

When not in passthrough mode the headset is working beautifully.

Version (v55) of both Quest 2 and PCVR software, as well as Virtual Desktop Streamer, is currently in 1.27.1 beta. All of them are experiencing stuttering issues with latency spiking up to 500+ and then returning to normal, only to spike again. This problem occurs specifically when you look around, and none of my settings have been altered in the past two years. This issue initially arose to me with the quest 2 version (v54) update and has persisted since then.

Thanks for sharing the link. I'd consider trying the solution, but the issue seems to come back after restarting the headset, as mentioned by the developer. The real problem lies in the continuous release of buggy updates without giving us the ability to choose which update to revert to. It's frustrating that they still insist on forcing these faulty builds onto our headsets.

Anything that triggers an APK install causes a crash. We cannot install apk directly from the headset with some kind of File Explorer Android app (ES File Explorer, Total Commander, Solid Explorer or SideQuest).

When a prompt screen such as Allow Debugging opens, it closes the app in background that opened the prompt.

Flashing pixels still present at v55. It's in Airlink, Virtual Desktop and Standalone games too. Beatsaber and walkaboutgolf suffers the most with this problem. Sometimes it happens even in the homescreen.

Huge fps drops when i`m facing the mirror at any home environment that have one.

The network spikes i was getting with v54 is gone now. No problems so far.

Did the network sparks really go away with v55? Anybody else can confirm this?

Yep, no more network latency spikes in v55 for me. On v54 it was lagging everytime you move arround.

the factory reset mentioned by the virtual desktop developer it solves until you restart the device.

there is some other bugs in the actual build like the flashing pixels and some stuttering while playing standalone. But the network spikes no longer happens to me.

I have experienced an issue on v55 where if i am in VR environment but am walking to my "play" area that passthrough cameras zoom in close AF to where I am walking. its a strange effect and never noticed it on any other release other than v55. Anyone else see that or experience that?

I've had similar experience on V55, which is the passthrough scene froze like a picture and stuck there.
