v.83 PTC Release Thread

Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v83 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v83:

1) For issues: Go to our Quest Forums and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v83" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v83 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

      I see people talking about Meta aps, Instagram ect. and uninstalling them. I think they might be embedded because I don't like Meta apps much either so I uninstalled them but as soon as there is an update for the app it somehow reinstalls itself. Just saying.

      I do not like that in v83, the headset battery indicator is now moved to the settings menu - this is an additional "click".  Before, in v81 and less, the battery indicator was on the menu bar, so one click, you can view the battery status. 

      I think headset battery status is an important enough stat that it deserves a place in the menu bar, and not hidden away in settings to view it.  Checking battery status whilst immersed is a thing people do, and to have us click an extra time is just annoying.

        Well I wanted to see all my titles ...... they're all there now. After yesterdays update. LOL

        A bit mixed but I'm sure that will change.

        I noticed on my Quest Pro on some games the bottom quarter of the view is out of focus and my middle click on the joysticks doesn't work.

        Error message I can't join on startup.

        Screem is right  blurry  soft with bloom, 

        Battery life hugely reduced with v83. Even plugged in i lost 20 percent in 10 mins without an app running.

        Pull this awful update.

          If I don't get out at around 40% battery I lose Internet. Best I get is 45-50 minutes playtime. I use an Anker battery pack and can get a few hours. I've never got to the end of the battery pack so I'm not sure how long it will last. I get that can't join message too.

          Just got the PTC V83 here in Australia - all seems well - long press on the game or app tile lets you hide the app.  Its good they separated the Apps/Games from the worlds so thats a tick - BIG drawback however is clicking on worlds takes you no where - so you cant enter the new VW space as you could in V81.  I know its the risk you take with the PTC - and no use complaining as you are in the test channel but something to keep in mind.

              Still do not have v83 an I’m in PTC in the US? Is there anything I can do to force it? Thanks

              @SchrwpfV My friend.......be careful what you wish for. There are many serious bugs still on v83 that are causing problems even with trying to get to your games library. I'm always grateful to those who are brave enough for ptc, but I'm seeing more issues being reported than I've seen on previous ptc releases.

                I own my Quest Pro for a bit more than two years I think and with v83 I have my left controller that switched off because of heat.

                I have never experimented that behaviour before and have sometimes spent 10 hours in VR without any issue.

                It can be a hardware issue of course, but it's also maybe something related to v83

                  I pre-ordered my Quest Pro and every since they went Meta Horizon system my controllers are sometimes hard to get working. I get that message of over heating all the time and sometimes it takes 3 , 4 or 5 restarts to get them working also after Horizon I get turn on more lights. I'll have to put on sunscreen if I turn on more lights. Nothing has changed where I use the Pro since I bought it except the OS. Always worked great till then. I don't think they are working to fix this because they are pushing the Quest 3 series hard.

                    But you guys are on the public test software. There will be loads of bugs until it's final release. If you don't want the problem, don't download untested software.

                        On Quest 2 v83, I can't access the passthrough anymore, always stuck in horizon home.  No option to sort my games, stuck in alphabetical order.

                        On Quest 3 v83, I can't access the horizon home anymore, always stuck in passthrough.  No option to sort my game, stuck in most recent order.

                        A game that I  don't own (actually game that I have purchased and ask/received a refund) appear in Unknown Sources. Tested fully functionnal.  Really strange.

                        Games that I tried for free in Early Access months ago, that were removed from my library, came back in my library, and I now have access to the full working games without ever paying them.  Even stranger.

                        I now have access to my PCVR games from the Universal menu. I hope there will be an option to sort the PCVR games as there is just too much stuff mixed together.

                        Click on the “Worlds” at the bottom. Pass through is there.

                        well, this post for the rollout was posted 25 days ago from today (11/21). i'm not angry, just, well uninformed, i guess. about how long does the rollout (for developers) take? a month, 3 months? just so i can keep my anticipation at bay.
