Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v83 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

Release Notes: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/172903867975450/

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v83:

1) For issues: Go to our Quest Forums and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v83" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v83 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

    Quest 3

    Link problem appeared today.

I have a double cursor (small one behind the main one) and consent boxes are not visible on headset but are there on screen, same with task manager launch box etc.

Also judder in game (especially noticeable on text) as if there are two screens on top of each other.

    V83.1034 build 5156385.13680.520

    Link version 83.0.0.311.349

This happened with a build a while ago but can't remember which one now.

Quest headsets are sold as consumer hardware, yet many core decisions about the software are made entirely by the platform, with little ability for users to opt out or keep configurations that already work for them. Updates regularly introduce changes to the UI, system apps, and features without any option to preserve previous behavior.

A clear example of this is home environments. Many users were satisfied with the environments that existed previously, but they were removed or replaced through mandatory updates, with no option to keep or restore them. These environments were functional and stable, yet user preference was disregarded once Meta decided they were no longer supported.

Recent changes have also introduced unreliable behavior when returning to the headset. Users can remove the headset and, upon putting it back on, find themselves dropped out of their environment instead of resuming where they left off. This breaks immersion and basic usability and is not acceptable behavior for a consumer device.

The same pattern applies to Meta-owned social applications. Apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram are treated as system components. Even when users uninstall or disable them, they are restored after reboots or system updates. For users who do not want these services on their headset, there is no supported way to permanently remove them.

Update control is another concern. System and firmware updates are enforced automatically, and over time Meta has actively removed methods that previously allowed updates to be delayed or disabled. This makes it difficult for users to maintain a stable setup and keep configurations that meet their specific needs.

Taken together, these behaviors make the experience feel less like owning a personal device and more like using hardware that is effectively rented and remotely managed. The user bears the full cost of the hardware but has limited authority over how it operates.

None of this means the platform should stop evolving. The issue is the lack of choice. Reasonable options could exist without harming the ecosystem, such as allowing non-essential system apps to be disabled, keeping legacy environments available, or offering update deferral with clear warnings.

Giving users more control over how their own devices behave would improve trust and satisfaction and better align the platform with the expectations that come with owning consumer hardware.

Since the last update, I'm having major tracking issues. Estimation tracking is completely unusable. I keep getting a Link Not Working error and the error persists even after I turned off auto link. Hand and body tracking is now unreliable. Sometimes the main menu gets stuck while Im playing games forcing me to find the application that Im playing to close menu. This update is buggy and have some many softaware errors. I tried resetting boundaries and deleting boundary history as well. At some point I even factory reset just for it to break again. Please roll back your updates or fix the problems because I'm unfortunately not the only one.

Well the latest update to the PC Link App has fixed the FIXER.EXE problem where it wouldn't start the Oculus service if it wasn't running and and halt with an error.

Now it is back to the old behavior - check status of Oculus service, start it if needed, launch the renamed Client.exe.
