Meta Quest 3 Software Version Post Fix Questions

Hello all,

I am attempting to find out if the 4 post fix numbers after the version number determine which features you receive on your headset. The post fix numbers I am speaking of are, for example: v85.xxxx or v2.1.xxxx

I currently have 1034 as my post fix numbers and it seems that none of the PTC features mentioned are included in my builds. I never paid attention to these 4 numbers in the past, but did use to get all the features mentioned when new PTC versions were dropped.

I had the new Navigator when it first arrived, but it has since been dropped for the older version of the bottom menu bar.

Please chime in and let me know if you have the same post fix numbers and different PTC features or the same. If you have different post fix numbers, let me know if you have the missing features like surface keyboard, new Navigator and what ever other enhancements are listed.

Thanks.

    No, I don't think so.

For example: steve_40 said in another thread that he still has the Horizon feed🤪 on v2.1.1034, but for another person on that version the feed is already removed.

Happened to several people after the udate to v2.1.....

About surface keyboard......I'm not sure, maybe you only have access to surface keyboard if you have Navigator?

Since I'm still on v85.1034 I have none of those features🤣

EDIT: You don't need Navigator to get the surface keyboard. Someone got another update today.... still no Navigator, but he got the surface keyboard with that update.

Thanks for letting me know, @Oculusness🙃

  • I have the same issue as below. Every release gets .1034 appended to it for some reason. I had hoped that at least v2.1 would be a fresh start, but nope, v2.1.1034.

EDIT: Note that this is most definitely a bug, see the release notes. Versions should be 79.1034 -> 81.0 -> 83.0 -> 85.0 -> 2.1 and instead I get 81.1034, 83.1034, etc. I'm not on the PTC and never were.

  • My version is 2.1.1034 but I never ever had Navigator. I can summon Meta AI, but if I ask it anything, it says "I can't do that on this device". I have a new profile selection menu with passthrough background and a virtual "power off" button below it. I've had my Quest 3 for 8 months.

If my daughter logs on to the same device using her profile, it says the version is 2.1. 🙃

  • A good question. There is no set rule for what you get. Even the longer number, the build no, after the 1034 doesn't signify any particular feature. As steve_40 says, he doesn't have Navigator but the beginning part of Meta AI which isn't working, but I'm on V85.1034 and I've had a few build number updates. I've had Navigator since v79 but I don't have any Meta AI anywhere and I don't have the new surface keyboard either. It's as mysterious as the meaning of life! 😁

Got an update just now on v2.1.1034 build 5194302.4870.520 to build 5194302.5220.520. This build included the Surface Keyboard for my device, but no Navigator. Horizon feed was dropped once I manually upgraded from v85 to v2.1.

        Congrats! 👍

So you got some changes and new features – and now you have the proof… the four numbers  after the version don't tell you which features you get and which you don't.😁

  • The Grand Chaotic Meta Feature Lottery Theory

Picture this: deep inside Meta HQ, beneath the polite veneer of corporate hallways and "Move Fast" posters, lies The Room. No one talks about The Room. No one admits it exists. But this is where Quest features are "distributed."

    Inside The Room sits:

    • A single fluorescent light that flickers like it's haunted
    • A whiteboard with the words "ALGORITHM???" written and erased so many times the board is permanently stained
    • And in the center, a massive, ancient, dust-covered Wheel of Features

Every morning, a hooded intern (Meta has many interns; some are hooded by choice) spins the wheel. It creaks. It groans. It lands on things like:

    • "Hand tracking v3.1 but only for people whose first name starts with S."
    • "Mixed Reality Passthrough Upgrade, but only on Tuesdays, and only if the user once thought about buying a Quest Pro."
    • "New UI layout for exactly 17 random people."
    • "Give someone the new avatar legs but remove their ability to screenshot."

Then the intern pulls a giant lever labeled DEPLOY CHAOS, and the features scatter across the globe like confetti in a hurricane.

Two people with identical headsets, identical firmware, identical serial numbers?

One gets a shiny new experimental feature.

The other gets… a notification that says "Something went wrong."

    Meta calls this "A/B testing."

Everyone else calls it "emotional roulette."
