Quest 3 is blank after starting

I have tried everything i know to resolve this.

Soft reset (press power button)

Hard reset (press and hold power button longer)

Reboot from boot up menu (power + volume)

Factory Reset

Switch boot start place (both A and B)

Cleaned all sensors (inside and outside)

It has been charged and was at around 80% while doing the above.

The machine powers on and you see the logo, after the logo disappears there is nothing on screen. There is a sound like it powers on and the controllers will vibrate but not register. If i hit the power button quickly 2x i can get the remotes to register and be visible on screen. If the remotes are visible, when i hold the power button i will get the menu to power down, cancel, or restart. If the remotes are not visible, that screen will not show and the power button has to be held to turn it off. The buttons on the remotes don't do anything outside of allowing selection on the power down screen. Holding any of them does nothing.

The volume up and down will show when pressed along with the scroll for the lens distance. Outside of that its all blank. After the reset, nothing shows up to set it up.

Could use some help on how to proceed. Item is past warranty.

  • Same thing has started happening to me, it started in the past week !
Being a tech, I'm thinking that some software update has caused this.

Could be a failed Facial Proximity Sensor but NOTHING has happened to this unit, it's been baby'd since day one, except for only one 'roll onto the carpet' about 1  - 2 years ago !

I believe all this started after the Meta Quest 3 update version 85.xxxx

Some people seem to be reporting similar issues with v85. The solution is to press the power button briefly to put the headset into sleep mode, then briefly press the power button again to wake the headset. Then the profile menu should appear. If that doesn't work, you probably have a proximity sensor issue. Note that the OP in this thread says they tried pressing the power button quickly 2x but that didn't fix their problem.

I'd also suggest fully powering the headset off and on. That seems to fix some gremlins that a quick restart doesn't always fix.

Hey Steve, your procedure is exactly how I 'temporarily' solved the black screen for now. Just found that solution early this morning after going through ALL the reboot and multiple button press restarts.......   except for the Reset to Factory....   I was NOT going there yet with all the software I have loaded.....  until absolutely necessary.

I hope our feedback helps all the users out there because I KNOW there are going to be MANY !!

You could try this. Power settings menu and Set Auto wake on head movement = on. This resolved the issue for me after I updated to V85 and got the grey screen on boot. Then no need to do the toggle power switch fix.

        Ya know what....

I went over ALL the settings a few days ago....    and might have 'tweaked' a couple.  Then a couple days later when I realized the Blank Screen problem, that others also had, I once again went over ALL the settings,  twice !      ....knowing I saw something originally about Auto Wake Function, but not finding it again.....    until YOU said where it was.

I sure pays to have a second set of eyes in the tech field !
Thanks so much.....  problem resolved  :-)
