[SOLVED] Oculus Link (Meta Horizon Link) "Client.exe" tanks internet speed

This has been an issue for me at some point after an update to the app, and whenever I have the app opened with the "Client.exe" running for some unknown reason, my wifi speed flipping TANKS. This has never happened before the rebrand of Oculus Link/update

I tried messing around with the prefered band in device manager, setting eveything to 5ghz and nothing worked...

PLEASE... HELP...

-without app opened

-app opened (THE UPLOAD IS BELOW 0... HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE...)

When i tested the speed of it, in the middle of the testing I opened the app and then it drops significantly... it limits the max to only be 10mbps.

-"Client.exe"

  • UPDATE: I FIXED IT, turns out it was caused by my lenovo vantage "Network Boost" setting

By turning it off Client.exe no longer throttle my wifi speed. So i think if anyone else thats expriencing this try disabling any "Network Boost" thats on your PC/Laptop

  • Normally this isnt an issue in singleplayer games but in multiplayer games like vrchat, roblox, etc. it becomes a big problem.

I tried messing around with the prefered band in device manager, setting eveything to 5ghz and nothing worked... And yes, i tried reinstalling and restarting my pc multiple times.

Do you mean the internet speed on your router (entire home network) or only on your PC? I just tested my PC with Link connected and the speed was fine. I remember a post a few days ago from someone having a similar issue and this post from 2 months ago. Maybe check your firewall, antivirus and QoS settings etc.

it only happens on my pc, i just tried messing around with the firewalls and disabling my antivirus but it didnt fixed the throttling issue

  • woaw Ry0t_ thanks for the flag, we'll look into this - this should not be happening

    A few questions:
Are you wirelessly connected to you PC? Or using ethernet?
Are you in VR when this happens? Or is it just with the app running?
Are you using Airlink or USB Link?

      1. I use wifi connection, i cant use ethernet because im not near my router
      2. Both, it doesn't matter if im in VR or not, whenever the app is opened or whenever "Client.exe" is running--the wifi speed tanks
      3. I use USB, i tested the speed and it showed to be at 3.4gbps

Your PC needs to be wired to the router, that is very important.
