V81 user interface problems (one severe)
I'm reporting three problems with v81 (in-headset bug reports have also been generated.)
- First, and most important, settings options related to Passthrough have all been removed - specifically the ability to disable double-tap to passthrough, as well as the ability to disable the passthrough mode altogether. Previously, these options were available in the Environment menu.
We run VR arena games and players touching their headsets accidentally during play is causing them to drop out of VR, requiring a game stoppage and intervention, and sometimes causing them to disconnect from the game altogether. This is unacceptable and we require a solution or we'll need to proceed with alternative hardware. Fortunately it's early days for us so switching to something more consistent is still a good option. - When any app is launched, a notification toast appears and remains for at least 10 seconds: "Use nearby roomscale guardian? You can switch to a nearby roomscale guardian or resume where you are. Press meta button for options."
This toast notification is pestering and useless, as pressing the meta button merely summons the quick menu as usual. Once an app is launched, we should be able to turn our full attention to the opening moments of the app, not a distracting and irrelevant notification. Get rid of it. - Switching to passthrough via doubletap or other means when an app is running (on purpose OR OTHERWISE, SEE ITEM 1) is causing a persistent notification that the app is still running in the background with an offer to resume, and cannot be dismissed.
When someone drops to passthrough, they want to be able to see. Bringing up the interface, notifications, or any other view-blocking UI elements is invasive, irritating, and in the case of the full-size interface being summoned, sometimes even dangerous (note the arena situation in point 1.) If we wanted to resume or see the interface, we would press the Meta button. I understand you're afraid somebody somewhere might not understand something on day 1, but this is no justification for punishing all of the rest of us in their daily use without our permission or any control over it.
I love and appreciate your work and what you guys and girls have created, please don't take the above personally.
Thank you.
