It sounds like your wifi connection wasn't strong when you tried. It happened to me on my Quest 3s. Restart your wifi modem and try again. It's probably not the headset issue. Hotspots don't usually have high quality wifi connection so stick to your own wifi. How fast is your home wifi ? Slow wifi can cause this as there is a lot of data to reload.  Also using hotspots might compromise your device security. Stay away from them unless you have protection.

In my case, the situation seems to be a bit more complicated. I'm currently in Syria, and although the Quest 3s was initially working (I was even able to pair it and access some features), I couldn't make any purchases in the store. After doing a factory reset, I now can't get past the Wi-Fi setup – it always shows "limited connection."

I tried restarting the modem, using different networks (including my home Wi-Fi), and even tested VPNs on my phone, but nothing helps. The headset detects my IP as being in Turkey, even though I'm physically in Syria. So it seems like it might be a region-related issue rather than just weak Wi-Fi.

Did you experience anything similar with regional restrictions or VPNs?

It might be an issue related to local security restrictions on wifi. I'm actually based in Istanbul, coincidentally ! If your ip is showing as in Türkiye it might mean that your closest provider is Turkish. Are you near the border ? This could be the reason you're not connecting to Meta. Are there any direct local wifi services that might give a better service ? What speed do you have on home wifi ?

    • Thanks again for your help!

At home I have a 4 Mbps connection, and at work I get around 20 Mbps. I tested the Quest 3s in both places — same result: always "limited connection" during setup, and I can't proceed.

Interestingly, at work my IP shows as Syrian, and at home it's Turkish — but the outcome is identical in both cases. So I don’t think it’s just about speed or signal quality.

That’s why I suspect it’s more of a regional restriction or Meta server issue — maybe something changed after the factory reset that now completely blocks the setup process.

      I am really desperate...

Your speed is extremely slow my friend. 20mbps is probably not going to work and 4mbps is totally impossible. You need more bandwidth. I'm thinking it's not due to restrictions but due to extremely slow speeds.  Even if your connection is 20mbps you will in reality get 15, on 4mbps it's likely you're only getting 2 in reality. Try to find a place with higher speeds, maybe an internet cafe or something similar. Here in Istanbul we have fiber gigabit internet 1000mbps, with the real speed being around 850mbps so everything downloads instantaneously.  I really think if you can find somewhere with around 100mbps, you'll be able to reinstall. The best of luck to you, I hope you get it fixed soon.

  • Thanks again, I really appreciate your detailed response.

You're absolutely right – my speeds are very limited compared to fiber connections like in Istanbul. That said, what makes me still doubt it's only about bandwidth is that the Quest 3s actually worked before the factory reset — even with the same Wi-Fi speed. I was able to install it the first time a few months ago and pair the device and access some basic features. The only thing that didn’t work back then was making purchases in the store.

After the factory reset, now I can't even pass the Wi-Fi setup — not at home, not at work, even though the connection is stable enough for other high-traffic apps.

Still, I’ll take your advice and try to find a place with faster internet — maybe 100 Mbps or more — and see if that changes anything. Thanks again for taking the time to help!

I'll come back and let you know what happened 😅

I just thought of one more possibility for you . It's an outside chance but it might work. Try to choose a time during the day like very late at night or early morning, like 3 or 4am when internet traffic might be very low, with most people sleeping, then you might get enough bandwidth and a stronger connection. Give it a try. You never know !
