iPhone Meta App Shows Old Headset After Factory Reset Cant RePair Device Bricked

iPhone Meta app shows old headset after factory reset and I cannot re-pair it. I am stuck in a pairing loop and need help. I factory reset my Oculus or Meta Quest headset. On the Meta website and on PC, my account correctly shows no devices. However, in the Meta Quest iPhone app, my old headset still appears and cannot be removed. Because of this, the iPhone app believes the headset already exists and will not allow pairing. I cannot remove the device, and I cannot re-pair the freshly factory-reset headset, leaving the headset unusable. I have factory reset the headset multiple times, removed the device from the Meta website, deleted and reinstalled the Meta Quest app on my iPhone, restarted the iPhone, and logged out and back into my Meta account. After reinstalling, the ghost headset still shows up only in the iPhone app even though it does not exist on my account online. This appears to be an iOS app cache or sync issue where the app is holding onto a device that no longer exists in Meta’s backend. Has anyone found a way to fully clear a ghost headset from the iOS Meta Quest app or force the app to recognize the headset as a new device after a factory reset?

  • I think usually restarting the phone app should clear the app, but you've done that already.

What you haven't mentioned trying is actually logging out of the phone app and logging back in. That fixes it for some people.

Another thing that sometimes works is hard powering off the headset. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Some users solved their problem simply by going into their Bluetooth settings on their phone and telling it to "forget this device" for the headset.

    Similarly, this worked for some:

I think also, some users reported that the problem cleared itself after waiting a few hours for the servers to sync.

Another option would be to try using a different phone.

The last resort solution would be to try setting up the headset through MQDH, but the catch is that headsets set up this way cannot be re-connected to the phone app, so dig deep and search for other solutions first.
