Rapidly & Repeatedly Connecting then Disconnecting

My Quest 3 recently became unable to maintain a connection to my PC via link cable, rapidly connecting and disconnecting until it is unplugged . I verified it is not the PC or Cable itself that is the problem, by connecting my Quest 3s via the same cable, to the same PC, and it works fine. The question is whether I have a hardware issue or not. I am in the PTC and recently received V79.1030 Build 5115411.10640.520. The problem was intermittent with previous versions since v77 I think.

If it's a problem with the build, I would expect that others may be having the same issue. If no one else is reporting the problem, then I probably have a hardware issue with the USB C port.

Also, I recently noticed that I am recent AGAIN charging to 100% and getting the green light. Since v72 ish, I was unable to charge above 75%, but that problem is gone. So they ARE doing something with the charging (USB C?) circuitry

  • Guys, apparently this bug has been SOLVED today with a firmware update. Still shows v79 build 1032, it was a more than 1GB update, but just after applied my INIU cable started working again and this issue dissapeared.

    Finally, almost a month...

  • Ok, I'm going to mark this as a "Solution" so that people can easily find it and give it a try.  It a workaround and does not work 100% of the time, but after multiple attempts, I usually can get a connection to Meta Link with my INIU charging / data cable.   Thanks to Cinauz for bring this to my attention.

1: Make sure the headset is NOT fully charged.  If 100% charged, this method won't work.
2: Turn OFF the headset.  (Full power-down, not just screen off)
3: Unplug the cable at the headset
4: Unplug the power from the in-line hub on the cable
5: Plug in the cable at the headset (leave the power injection unplugged)
    6: Turn on the headset
7: Here's where you will know if it's going to work:   You may hear the "connect / charging" sound several times.   If it stops, and you see the on-screen charging indicator @ the quick menu, then go to the next step.   If the connecting / disconnecting does not stop, then go back to the beginning and try again.
8: Lastly, plug in the power injection at the in-line hub on the cable.

The actual solution is meta fixing it. From other topics, they are working on it.

It's not really a solution, rather a workaround but it does work. Just played a game my headset was at 69% and finished at 72% so it is charging as you play but we shouldn't have to do all kinds of acrobatics to be able to play. Plug, unplug, repeat if not working is not a solution as such, but I admit it works.

So please just in case meta is checking on this site could you take the "solution" off so they can see it's not really resolved

Edit: Just finished playing for 2 hours straight headset still at 74%

Glad you were able to keep charged while playing.    I indicated that it's not really a solution.  It's marked as such, only so it is easier to find so people can try it and see if it "works" for them, and lets them play and stay charged like you were able to do.

  • I just updated to v79 and my cable, which has power injection, stop working.

Lucky me I have another long USB cable without power injection which does work.

I mostly use Quest 3 for PC games (racing and flight simulation) so I get best performance with cable than Air Link and have large sessions so maintaining the device charged is a must.

    WTH Meta!?!?!?

    Don't like competition?

Your cable is not only super expensive but also does not have power injection, that's why we had to buy 3rd party cables.

You are pushing me to look (and spend money) for a replacement for PC games.

Try the workaround method listed as a "solution" and see if you can get your charging cable to work.   I can get it charging and connected to Meta Link with just a couple of tries.

        Hi,

        > with just a couple of tries.

I will try but such trial and error is not precisely appealing.

        Thanks.

  • It's a shame to have the same problem for 2 months and META simply doesn't solve it.

  • I had the same issue. When I connected my Quest 3 and it kept disconnecting and reconnecting, I right-clicked on the Meta app icon in the taskbar and clicked on my Quest 3. Right after that, the connection became stable and it hasn’t dropped since. I’ve tried it multiple times and it works every time. I’m not sure why this fixes it, but it’s worth a try.

The problem you are having likely has a different cause than the problem addressed in this thread.   The rapid disconnections I was experiencing were every couple of seconds (not as far apart as yours).     Good luck fixing your problem!

  • this is a rediculous problem. i regret buying my quest headset. I use it mostly for PCVR through oculus app. i sim race and this alert pops up and completly disables the screen and my view. ive had crashed is league level races due to this. this alert should not disable to entire VR session. I am going to make a youtube video reviewing the quest3, this will def be the main topic of the video.

  • I still have the same issue.I cant update from v79.If i try to play pcvr it disconnects me randomly from link.

Please reply if you have an solution. Thanks :D
