Disable Boundary in Quest 3

Can we disable Boundary in Quest 3? I know this is possible in Quest/Quest 2.

The large contingent of Quest users who Sim race or use flight simulators need our headsets to not be looking for a boundary or doing anything but displaying while we sit in our rigs.

Hey there! We understand you would like to know if you can disable boundaries in Quest 3. We know how important it must be for you to have it disabled, and we would love to help you out with this. You should have the option to disable your boundary in your settings and just use stationary mode if you wish. We hope you find this helpful.

Is it possible to setup boundaries for different areas of your house, like living room, bedroom, etc? Every time I go to another area and come back, the system says cannot find the boundaries and ask to setup and scan all over again?

Of course we do require assistance, this option still hasn't been implemented.
Why would you want to prevent power user to improve your product ? Try it out, collect data, implement.

THanks

Seriously, this is so annoying. I play in 3 different rooms, and I thought I'd just use one massive boundary that fits all of them into it, but it still loses the boundary regularly and puts me into stationary mode and asks me to redraw my boundaries. Why can't I just turn this feature off entirely like I could with my Odyssey+ headset?

I'm a grown adult and I should be trusted to use my VR headset responsibly so I'm nowhere near anything I might collide with, and I don't need reminders telling me I'm approaching things, especially when the boundary system breaks even when I don't approach those boundaries.

+1 to this, I'm so unbelievably frustrated at this point, that if MetaStoreHelp doesn't announce a software fix in the next month, I will be returning my headset.

We are adults, we should be allowed to walk around our house if we want to in the product we purchased with out non stop alerts to redraw boundaries. The "please don't sue us for bumping your head" software lock is ridiculous. If someone falls down the stairs or something, that's on them, not you. Give us control of our own headsets. I should have known better than to buy a facebook product.

I simply wanted to walk from my office to my bedroom and lie down, but its a 3-5 minutes process with non stop boundary alerts every time I want to change what room I'm in. How you shipped it like this on launch is beyond me, defeats the whole purpose of the awesome AR pass through tech. People want to wander into their kitchen, and cook a meal with a virtual screen next to them. I guarantee the Apple Vision will not be playing overlord with their boundary system.

Have you tried checking the "Meta Quest Developer Hub"? I never used it, but I see to recall that app having an option for turning off the guardian for videos and screenshots. Not sure if it can do it on Quest 3 ...

Edit: I think it is actually a PC/MAC application, not a Quest "app".

Hey there! Is everyone having this issue where you can't seem to find the feature to disable the boundary?

We are all mad here.

Rather than disabling boundary, can boundary locations be saved? So that everytime I move from one part of the house to another, it automatically detect and switches to the saved boundary/scanned space setting?

Hey there! I really wish this was a feature and however, it is a good idea for sure! I would highly recommend putting it on our Ideas Forums. However, regarding the issue with disabling boundary I let our engineers know.

I was able to get rid of this annoyance by:

  1. Enabling the Developer mode.
  2. Disabling the boundary altogether.

I lost the passthrough feature but I guess, Meta taketh what it giveth. With that damned boundary enabled, the Home screen would disappear; I would see a blue line running across the screen in any app I started when I turned my head sideways, and that crappy app called SkyBox (which is unsurprisingly the best movie player in the Meta app store because Meta won't make its highly paid developers build a decent movie player) kept going dark every 5 seconds - no sound/video; just a gray screen (not black, because Meta's lens, due to their inferior quality don't know what black is) with sometimes the boundary grid showing up.

I was so incensed that I was planning to return the device & leave a scathing review @ Amazon, but then I figured how to get rid of the boundary. The lack of passthrough makes the Quest 3 a Quest 2 with better lens.

PS: To experience MR, even in a non-gaming app, you'll have to share data about your surroundings with Meta. That scares the living daylights out of me. Look at what it did when it had access to our profile data. Now imagine what it could do if it had access to something as personal as the layout of our homes.

Had Apple priced its Vision Pro in the $1500-$2000 range, I would have waited for it 😞. Till Apple makes its device "affordable", we'll have to tolerate the Zuck.

Hey everyone! Regarding disabling boundary is not recommended and is not a standard feature. I hope this information finds you well and there are workarounds like other people have mentioned that you can check out. However, like I mentioned before it is not recommended.

This is hostile to a vast portion of VR users and all for nothing but some corporate aversion to liability. I'll sign literally any waiver just to turn this horrible chore of a "feature" off.

My experience with the Quest 3 as a PCVR user has been poor in comparison to the Rift S, which was already poor in comparison to other dedicated PCVR headsets. I cannot believe I have to sit and wait for this thing to try and fail to create a boundary inside my sim-rig before going through the additional chore of informing it that I'm fine with a stationary boundary. I also struggle to believe I can't have a setting on the headset to recognise that I want to enter Link mode when I plug the link cable in and just do it. On any other headset I can just run the simulator and be immersed straight into the action.

In good conscience I can only recommend other sim users avoid Meta headsets until some simple features are implemented to end this active hostility.

Birdwave_Racer  Maybe I’m missing something but with all my flight and racing sims I just setup a stationary guardian when I startup my Q3, go into Link or Air link, call up the Rift home virtual desktop and select a sim from a desktop shortcut.  When the sim starts I just place my controllers aside (I sometimes need one available in xp11/12 to select menus/settings).  With sims that don’t need the controllers, when placed off to the side they generally go to sleep and only wake up if I grab them again later.

If necessary I can also redo my stationary guardian using the Rift home dashboard settings.  So, all your ranting seems a little storm in a teapot, to me anyway.  I also select do not disturb so I don’t get any message pop ups when my controllers go to sleep.

You have just described a process that is several times longer than what the process could be if PCVR were well implemented.

My comment comes from several years of experience dealing with Meta's "features" that Oculus did not pester us constantly with, their practiced disdain for PCVR users, and the snarky commentary from people who weren't here when VR was on a trajectory to be much better than it is now.

Before waving me off as "ranting", wait for hundreds of dollars in prize money to slip through your grasp because a "feature" pulls you entirely out of the simulator, destroying the car you and your team have been racing for 21 hours, and getting a "sorry your immersion was effected" response from Meta about that, thanks.

I've seen this happen with SteamVR headsets as well (like my VP1).  Usually this is a network related issue, not Steam or Meta related imho.  Anyway, rant away if it makes you feel better mate, lol!

I really want this too.
I'm recreating my house in unreal and I want to change room easily without worrying about everything going to passthrough etc...
Not sure why it is not possible???!!!
