Question

Oculus TrayTool - SuperSampling profiles, HMD disconnect fixes (hopefully)

Oculus Tray Tool
current version: 0.87.3

What is it?
In short; It’s a free application that helps you get the most out of your Rift. It is developed by me, ApollyonVR, with the support of the community for beta testing. Please note that this application is not an official piece software from Oculus, I am not affiliated with Oculus in any way. Any issues you
have with this application should be reported to me and not Oculus support. You can reach me here on the forums or by contacting me at *REDACTED*

Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) has many features that will hopefully help you get the very best VR experience. It has options that help you automatically switch audio and microphone to the Rift and back, handle the Oculus runtime service, voice commands, batch import Steam games (added to OTT by the awesome headkaze over at http://headsoft.com.au), replace icons for your games and more.

It’s primary feature however, is the ability to create “Profiles” for you VR Games and apps.
Within these Profiles, you set how Asyncronous SpaceWarp (ASW) should act, increase the perceived resolution by using Supersampling and increase the CPU Priority of a given app to get the most juice out of your system for that specific application.
Once a Profile has been created for a game or app, OTT will detect when it is started and apply the
profile for it, without the need for taking your headset of.

If you want to have a peek at all the things OTT can do for you before installing the application, check the User Guide pdf. The latest version of this application will always be right below this intro, but the app also checks for available updates on startup.

Enjoy, have fun and please report any issues, suggestion or feature requests to me using the above mentioned methods. Oh, and feel free to buy me a coffee by using the PayPal button in-app. 🙂

The very nice people over at Guru3d.com have been kind enough to host some mirrors for the setups, so make sure to pay them a visit!

UPDATE 03/08

Hi all!
It's been a while since i released a new version, but now the time has come! 😃
I'm looking for ppl who want to test the new version before public release.
There are primarily changes for the Quest but anyone is welcome to test it.
Just drop an email to *REDACTED* and i'll get you a download link
and some instructions. Also include what type of headset (Rift or Quest)
that you are using.

Also, i now have a proper domain for the website, so swing by www.ApollyonVR.com
and check out the new Forum! If you have questions, comments or suggestions

that is the place to post them. 😃

Below are the release notes for the new version. Please note that this is a Beta version

for testing the new features. If you just want to use a stable version of OTT then head

over to www.apollyonvr.com and simply download the latest version.

Version 0.87.7
* Oculus Dash will now use the same CPU Priority as what you set for OVR Server.
* Added a "Comments" option to Profiles.
* Implemented Paolod29's code for a permanent AirLink (https://github.com/pd29/oculus-airlink-enabler).
* Added more choices to the Quest Link settings for "Bitrate" and "Encode Resolution".
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added option for "Dynamic Bitrate Max" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added "FOV Multiplier" to Profiles. Setting this to a value lower than 1, for example 0.8,
will increase FPS due to less pixels being drawn at the expense of lower FOV.
* When creating a brand new Profile, the current settings from the Game Settings tab will be used.
This will make it even easier to create a new Profile! Simply experiment with different settings
on the Game Settings tab, and when you have found the perfect combo for a given game those
settings are copied over when you click "Create new Profile".

* Added option to Disable profiles.

* Redesigned the Profiles window a bit.
* Fixed some bugs.

Cheers!

Aplloyon: ASW global setting isn't applied on OVR service start.
Also it doesn't save the global ASW setting, same with USB selective supend. Those 2 always reset to resp. Auto and Enabled.

Hello,
Having some issues since updating to 0.68.2

First is that the little circle that highlights 'warnings' is always yellow on tool start. There's no warnings other than it checking for an update?

The other issue I'm seeing is an error that it cannot access the ott.log file because " because it being used by another process"

Any ideas?

@TheRealIronWolf You can use the arrow up/down keys to select overlays, but OTT needs to be in focus for that to work. Once you launch a VR app (or any app for that matter) that app will be in focus and will be the application that responds to keys. So you need to alt+tab or similar to get OTT in focus for that to work. You might want to consider using the voice commands to control that stuff instead.

@SkScotchegg Well, it's free =)

@Mace404 I am not checking ASW on OTT or service starts, and it is reset to Auto when the tool shuts down. This is by design to make sure it is always default. If needed i can of course change that.
Selective suspend is just picked up, whatever the last setting was will be shown. I will make a change there so it is also set on tool starts, and reset when OTT shuts down.

@Globespy Not sure about that. Make sure you are running as Administrator and also reboot your pc in case something is holding on to the log file. If you still have issues PM me the ott.log and we'll take a peek.

Cheers!

I'd like to have ASW off by default, since it's only causing trouble with the way I set up super sampling.
Btw, using the ASW options from the tool doesn't work for me.
Only those old ctrl+numpad hotkeys work.  Do I need to delete that registry entry (forgot which one it was) in order to make it work?

I'm interested in this tool for setting up headphone audio when a steam game launches in oculus mode. Even better would be if the tray tool could set up audio mirroring -either using the config options OH now provides under settings>devices or independently. Currently i use audiorouter but that's very clumsy and can't save settings.

thanks

I would like the the global ASW state set at service/OTT start time, so if you want, please.
Then it reacts in line with the pixel density setting there.
(a selection 'Don't change' would keep the current behavior)

The selective suspend always switches to Enabled for me. Even when I put it on Disabled and close/start OTT.
Edit: Nevermind, I had a local group policy setting the powerplan, this somehow prevented to change this setting. Works as intended now.

Hi everyone, I just downloaded and tried to launch the "OculusTrayTool.exe" from the folder and then a green window pops up in windows 10 saying "Windows Protected your PC"...and underneath says "Windows Defender SmartScreeen prevented an unrecognised app from starting."

I've searched google on how to disable this "SmartScreen" but I can't seem to find the "SmartScreen" option on my PC anywhere. So not really sure how to get around this.

Can anybody please help?

Thanks in advance.

@TheRealIronWolf I have added a hotkey option so that you can change Visual HUD using Alt+Arrow Up/Down or Ctrl+Arrow Up/Down. There will be a checkbox to enable the feature. This will be in the 0.69 version along with a few other requested features. If you would like it to be implemented in some other way just ping me and i'll look into it.

@SkScotchegg You should be able to unblock it using the this guide: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/124367-open-file-security-warning-unblock-file.html. Hope it helps!

@brmmbrmm You can set OTT to change default audio output to Rift when Home is launched. If a Steam game is launched and the Rift s being used, then Home should launch in the background, so audio should be switched. However, sometimes this does not work for some reason. I think it has to do with the timing, the game is actually started before Home is initialized, and the the current default audio output is used. If you launch Home before starting the game from Steam it should work. I will look building a similar feature for when SteamVR is started so it is always switched.

@Mace404 @Syndroid I will make a changes so that the ASW option set is saved and used on OTT start and also on service start/restart. Might make it a checkbox so you can select if you want it saved or not, not sure yet, the gui is getting a bit cluttered with checkboxes =)

Cheers!

Not sure why that is happening, need to see the log file for that. I will PM you and we will have a look.

Any game that does not have a profile will "inherit" the last setting made, but any game that does have a profile for will get whatever the setting for that profile is. Does that clear it up? Also, there is a bit of info in the user guide as well, so take a peek at that and poke me/this post if you have any further questions.

Would it result in a more consistent experience and would be easier for the end user to understand if the tool would set SS back to 0 when an application with a profile exists? Or even better (if possible) always when you are at Home?
