Question

Is it time to accept that Meta is no longer supporting quest 3 link with Nvidia drivers?

591.86 WHQL β€” January 27, 2026 was the last working drivers from Nvidia that meta quest link supports. Since February 26, 2026. Nvidia 595.59 WHQL update and onward has caused a wide spread issue were Meta quest headsets have been crashing (screen freezes on a frame and tears) after 1 to 20 mins. For me personally its about a minute.

It has been exactly 193 days since there has been a working version quest link for currnt drivers. I have multiple friends that have experienced this problem. I see countless post on reddit even now and even on these forums about this issue. And it hasn't been address at all. Its been just over half a year since I have been able to play games on the latest Nvidia drivers without having to install older Nvidia drivers to use for VR games. This is how me and many other people have gotten around this problem since many new games don't work with older drivers. I have upgraded from a 3080 to a 5080 / new pc (not related to VR breaking) and prayed that it would fix the issue, it has not.

Is it just time to accept they are no longer supporting Link on quest 3 any more? I legit don't know what other reason this issue has gone on and i have lost a lot of faith in this headsets. Thinking about switching brands but I have purchased stuff on quest store and I like quest desktop link so I don't want to.

Some people most definitely have issues due to driver updates arriving on PC's that are messing up link, but....

"Is it just time to accept they are no longer supporting Link on quest 3 any more?"

this is over dramatically stating the situation. Yes, it's a problem that affects a substantial percentage of users but most people don't have the issue. Due to staggered releases of driver updates and even other updates, Meta is always playing catch up, so it will not be something that will ever be solved for everyone. And don't start thinking it's just a Meta headset problem. Check reddit, there are exactly the same issues with other headsets, sometimes even worse. It is what it is. Btw, as there are already far too many threads on this issue, you should keep your comment within those threads rather than adding to the giant list that already exists. Remember we are all just volunteers here trying to help with specific issues, we are not Meta's complaints department. If you want to do that, contact Meta directly.

Does this post happen to be about this Your NVIDIA graphics driver has a known bug which causes Meta Horizon Link to freeze up during gameplay. Please rollback to version 591.86 or earlier. Please let me know if anyone else knows how to solve this , I really dont want to roll back my Graphics driver just to solve this problem with the  Horizon Link app

You solve it by rolling back the GPU driver, of course. Or, use AirLink, SteamLink or Virtual Desktop.

Hi, I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers (617.14) and have no issues with Meta Quest Link if I disable sliced encoding in ODT.

AirLink or cable???

Airlink works fine for me (with sliced encoding disabled), regardless of driver version.

However, I understand the driver issue is mainly when using the USB cable.

Is int best to keep out graphics drivers as is since they work as a global driver for the rest of our apps, rather than satisfy the need for one app? Rolling back seems like a bandage for one app.  I would think we’d have issues in the future using other apps, which would require the need to update the graphics drivers?

Ya, I got that little red banner yesterday when I started up the meta-link pc app that suggested to use Nvidia driver 591.86 or earlier until Nvidia fixes a few bugs.  I had been using 610.47 for a while without any major issues with both my QPro and Q3 using Link and Air Link (also occasionally using Virtual Desktop).  Anyway, I did rollback using DDU in safe mode to properly uninstall previous drivers (google how to do this) and then installed 591.86.  After this, everything seems to work better/smoother than ever with both Link and Air Link!

I don't have any games that require more recent drivers.  Also, this driver is recent enough so I'm not too worried about not having the latest Nvidia security addons.  So, I'll just stick with this driver for now.

If you do a little Googling you may find that this driver is still considered one of the better performing and most stable drivers for PCVR.  Cheers.

it says for the rift or rift s in how to roll back driver.  So i feel it has nothing to do with the q3.  Mine runs perfectly fine q3 and have the 617 nvidia driver updated.

Yeah, this is very frustrating. I'm not going roll back my GPU driver.

Turning off sliced encoding fixes the freezing issue, but it comes at the cost of having to set encode bitrate to max 600, which results in worse image quality, compared to the 900 that worked just fine with sliced encoding enabled

please fix this.

Syndroid I think you are under the impression that we can "please fix this." Unfortunately, as this is a user only forum we can't fix anything associated with Meta software. Meta aren't here anymore since 2025, no Meta moderators, no Meta community managers. The MetaStoreHelp link here doesn't work.  Very frustrating I know, but it's best to contact Meta themselves about this and keep reporting it as a bug through the bug reporting tool on your headset.

Just in case, here is an email link to a human support person at Meta. Maybe they can point you in the right direction to who you can talk to.

Maybe we could use our telekinetic powers to lower their bitrate to something more sensible, like 300 πŸ™ƒ.

Maybe time to get usb c cable and using Virtual Desktop. I'm quite happy using Steam link wireless but that's upto you !!
