Question

Add optional "IGNORE" feature to the forums.

There's a lot of noise
on these forums and it has caused my right index finger to grow unnaturally
large and muscular from all the exercise it gets scrolling past posts with
questionable value in otherwise interesting threads, usually attributable to
the same individuals.  It's like an itch that won't quit.  Therefore, I think it would be nice to have an "IGNORE"
feature available tied to user accounts.

I prefer the solution I made a while ago (but lost when my SSD died), a greasemonkey script that fed certain members' posts through a markov chain. That way I knew they posted, but their post became a humorous jumble.
But it tends to not work well with short posts, I never got around to making it accumulate enough text from a user to always generate fun content (although the people I used it on never wrote short posts).

Although now I'm a mod, I can't ignore people, I have to read all the crap. :(

Actually, I was able to find an ignore plugin for the forum. Will need to test it a bit, but it looks like it should work and I'll enable later this week if everything goes well. Thanks for the suggestion.

It will likely be used as a weapon by some.  There will be a ton of petty arguments over "i have you on ignore" "we are all ignoring you" and "could you tell *** he's a ****.  I can't because i'm ignoring him". Keep everything visible, to everybody.  If somebody is being ignored that much then it's likely they need to be taken around the back by the moderators and given a persuasive "talking to".

I don't really want to ignore everything one user creates, would the ignore feature include threads? For example someone creates a thread that ends up spiralling a bit and I want to ignore it since it keeps jumping to the top of the category?

    Edit:
For example the 'Adult' thread I'd like to ignore but I don't want to ignore @Shadowmask72 because I like all his other posts.

I agree with what @andyring is saying. I'm not sure if ignoring everything one user posts because they had a bad day and pissed someone off is a good idea. :# ( Will anyone see a Zenbane post ever again?! :D /jk )

As long as the ignore feature doesn't let people ignore mods or admins.

It does have a potential to make a mess for everybody who isn't ignoring someone. We'll end up with posts repeating the same info or asking questions that were just answered a few posts ago, because they are participating in a thread without reading all of it.

We are all grown ups (most of us) I still say if you want to ignore someone then just don't read their posts ffs. The ignore feature is a useless and pointless feature imo.

It will be used by snowflakes to show they disagree with your views and create themselves a safe-space and fanbois to show they disagree with your choice of headset.

    what you talking about?

It's only Zenbane and Techy I'll have not ignored. Will be interesting seeing @Zenbane talking nonsense to himself and @Techy111 trying act like a rifter with his joypad... (that's twice now, I know you're gonna be adding me to the ignore list)

This is my forum signature. There are many others like it, but this is mine.
