Question

Add optional "IGNORE" feature to the forums.

There's a lot of noise
on these forums and it has caused my right index finger to grow unnaturally
large and muscular from all the exercise it gets scrolling past posts with
questionable value in otherwise interesting threads, usually attributable to
the same individuals.  It's like an itch that won't quit.  Therefore, I think it would be nice to have an "IGNORE"
feature available tied to user accounts.

How about if someone is out of line they are automatically ignored. We could maybe call it a "ban".

And possibly have an agreed framework to follow to guide us, we could call them "rules"

And these "rules" are broken it can lead to a "ban".

These "rules" could be enforced by trusted forum users called "moderators".

It's a crazy notion I know, but maybe, just maybe, it might work...

Or just have Ignore.  It's like DVR.  Now you can optionally skip the commercials and get back to regular programming.

The ability to scroll past posts of people you don't like is similar to DVR, and we can do that right now. So this thread is for people who can't use DVR right and need a magic button that takes the commercials away entirely.

The only problem is that the analogy falls apart since other people won't have your same Ignore List, so everyone is watching and talking about different things.

It gets impractical and silly, which is why (as others stated), it is primarily used as a weapon.

Zenbane, you seem really worried about a potential Ignore feature...lol

I almost like the idea of being able to ignore someone in a single thread individually, and it wouldn't ignore future posts or threads with them in it. However, I can see it causing issues, it's like taking dismissing someone's post to a whole 'nother level. I would say the dislike button is preferable to an ignore one, but I think even that was removed. Was it overly abused? I wasn't very active here when it was removed.

    I like my idea better
This is my forum signature. There are many others like it, but this is mine.

Having an opinion doesn't denote worry, any more than saying you must have anxiety the entire time you're posting on a forum without your Ignore List.

Besides, there's nothing to be worried about since a feature like that tends to work in favor of posters like myself. I said it here:

The half of me that loves turmoil says, "yeah, bring on the Ignore
feature!" Because I know how these things turn out, and they tend to do
more harm than good; which translates to more fun for me. This half
votes in favor of the Ignore button.

I very much doubt Zenbane will be the one to worry of being ignored, anyone thinking that has not been paying attention to the last number of months

So the ignore feature is live now.

You can ignore users by going to their profile (for example, by clicking their name) then clicking the person icon and choosing "ignore". You can also manage the ignore list (for example to manually add or remove people) by clicking the gear icon on top right, choose edit profile, then ignore list on the mid right.

I would advise people to not abuse this feature. It's not meant as retaliation but merely to filter out people you don't wish to interact with. In addition, if you tease or taunt people (for example saying: "I can't hear you, you are being ignored.") then that would be considered being a jerk and against the rules.

Hopefully people will be able to behave themselves and we'll see how things go. Thanks.
