Question

Add optional "IGNORE" feature to the forums.

There's a lot of noise
on these forums and it has caused my right index finger to grow unnaturally
large and muscular from all the exercise it gets scrolling past posts with
questionable value in otherwise interesting threads, usually attributable to
the same individuals.  It's like an itch that won't quit.  Therefore, I think it would be nice to have an "IGNORE"
feature available tied to user accounts.

Voted no, just seems if its active we'll soon descend into missed information, repeated information and all round confusion.

Really its all just a bit "School Playground", we're adults here so I don't think there's any need.

Completely agree with this, and in fact... in this case you are 100% correct.

kevin, the OP, posted this thread
immediately after I typed a response to him that he didn't like in another
    thread:
    https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/comment/481383/#Comment_481383

However, prior to my post to kevin, he had made a chastising response to jayhawk:
    https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/comment/481370/#Comment_481370

So we can already see how this Ignore List feature is going to be used:

    1) jayhawk makes a new thread about VR
    2) kevink808 chastises jayhawk
    3) zenbane chastises kevink808
    4) kevink808 scrambles to find the Ignore List

People want to be able to talk poop without getting poop back, which isn't the best reason to have an Ignore List. In this case it will only be used as a tool to extend someones negative behavior and intentions. I've seen this many times on many forums. But perhaps we need to play it out for awhile. I anticipate the end-result will be similar to what I've seen in years past... people who actually use the Ignore List will end up feeling left out of many discussions and not understand the jokes people are saying.

    Good times ahead lol

Good lord, if you're going to troll me, don't be lazy.  That just comes off paranoid.  I think if you go review your links, you'll realize that you never answered my simple question for specifics.  Sorry, I didn't know it bothered you so much.  But please keep it brief, because I start to nod off after about two paragraphs.  I'm used to executive summaries in my field of work.

Again with that word... "troll." As I said, it is over-used and abused.

There's nothing to be paranoid about, I'm just stating the obvious. You asked for an ignore feature as soon as you received a response you didn't like; and you just as quickly drop the word "troll" when you read something you don't like.

Other people in this thread are talking about the way Ignore Lists end up being abused, and I'm simply showing you as an example. Your replies are reinforcing what other folks are saying in this regard.

I'm in the tie the ignore feature to the post not to the poster camp...

Actually, I was able to find an ignore plugin for the forum. Will need to test it a bit, but it looks like it should work and I'll enable later this week if everything goes well. Thanks for the suggestion.

It will likely be used as a weapon by some.  There will be a ton of petty arguments over "i have you on ignore" "we are all ignoring you" and "could you tell *** he's a ****.  I can't because i'm ignoring him". Keep everything visible, to everybody.  If somebody is being ignored that much then it's likely they need to be taken around the back by the moderators and given a persuasive "talking to".

yes this you are saying what i feel

it will just be a weapon to attack, mods can mods and do awesome work anyways

I'm sure I will be on many Ignore lists, and I'm certainly okay with that. This is the generation of Safe Space, and people do need their protective bubble. If this Ignore feature had been here months ago, I probably wouldn't have been banned lol

Feature suggestion: can we apply new Forum Ranks for people who use the Ignore list?

    For example:

    1) Adding 1-5 people to your Ignore List = Magical Unicorn
    2) Adding 6-10 people to your Ignore List = Funshine Bear
    3) Adding 11-20 people to your Ignore List = Unsliced Fruitcake
    4) Adding 21+ people to your Ignore List = Fairy Princess

    hey!!!

i been working very hard toward fairy princess

How about if someone is out of line they are automatically ignored. We could maybe call it a "ban".

And possibly have an agreed framework to follow to guide us, we could call them "rules"

And these "rules" are broken it can lead to a "ban".

These "rules" could be enforced by trusted forum users called "moderators".

It's a crazy notion I know, but maybe, just maybe, it might work...

Thanks for the psycho-analysis, but as someone who once managed mental health business operations, you get what you pay for.

Actually, I asked for an ignore feature previously in the infamous ban thread. I figured a dedicated thread would have more visibility.

People have asked for the Ignore feature several times over the last 7 months. It is much needed by those who like to start trouble but cant take it in return.
