Question

Aliens - Fact Or Fiction..?

Well we've had a time travel thread so I thought we should have an aliens thread too.

I believe that aliens have visited and are visiting our planet. Now I don't think that there are aliens that are living here and impersonating humans, but I certainly believe that at least SOME of these UFOs captured on film and seen by people are alien spacecraft.

How am I reasoning this? Pretty simple. There have simply been too many technological leaps since the 50s to make it not being true. Just have a think about it:

  1. Integrated circuits and microchips.
  2. Credit cards and bank cards.
  3. Cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays.
  4. Kevlar
  5. Lasers
  6. Stealth bombers
  7. The Oculus Rift lol
  8. Velcro.
  9. Quantum Computers.
And then have a look back through time and you have the Pyramids, Mayan astronomy and cities, Stonehenge, the Inca's Machu Picchu and Teotihuacán in Mexico.

A great deal of these UFO sightings are around air bases so a good percentage of them can be put down to experimental aircraft, but ALL of them?

The truth is out there. Trust no one.

What if first "aliens" we meet are our evolved species? I mean that, if we go to colonize space. Sooner or later distances will grow so big that we start to evolve to different paths and become different species.

Take few million years and there could be several "human races" that are as far apart as whales are from hippos. We may not even recognize them as same species anymore nor do remember them even existing.

    About relativity and aliens.
Do you ever stopped to have a conversation with a worm ?

In case there is an alien civilization which have the technology to travel in space without taking 1000 years to come here and see us....for them we are just worms.....even with our best technology.

    sad isn't it.

"A worm's speed is dependent on its size; large worms move faster than medium-sized worms, and medium-sized worms move faster than smallworms. A large earthworm can move up to 73 metres per hour! A smallearthworm, on the other hand, only travels about 7.3 metres per hour, or 30 centimetres per minute."

I like the road side picnic idea. This was the concept given by a scientist in the book Road Side Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky (the games and movie Stalker are based on that book).

The idea is that alien visitation is like humans having a picnic. They arrive, do things and leave, leaving behind rubbish. To the insects and animals nearby, the entire thing is beyond comprehension. They can't understand the purpose of the remains (food scraps would be great, but an oil leak from the car would be toxic). The humans aren't even aware of the lesser life nearby and give no thought to how their visitation will affect things after they have gone.
The same would then apply to aliens visiting us. Except we are the insects trying to understand what had happened.

The Zone in Stalker (at least the book and movie, since the games change the story a bit) is the picnic spot. The artifacts are the trash thrown away by the aliens. Some deadly, some beneficial, but all with a purpose beyond us.

The book Cyberway by Alan Dean Foster also used the roadside picnic concept to explain aliens.

Visiting earth would be like all of us going to Cleveland Ohio for Christmas. Why? Why would you do that? No offence to anyone from Cleveland but come on there are better places to visit.

There could be any number of reasons:

    1) Scientific research

    2) General exploration of the galaxy

    3) The abundance of water on the planet

    4) Using us for food

    5) To abduct @vannagirl and give her a good probing

The first two there and that last one are the important ones for me. Humans feel the need to explore so I can't see why a few races of aliens would be any different. If we had FTL/folding space or inter-dimensional travel we wouldn't hesitate to travel to other planets and study life elsewhere. And @vannagirl is one of the most beautiful creatures in the Milky Way so they'd want to check her out. <3 :D

You want to go to Ohio to explore the galaxy? I guess you need to start somewhere.

Apologies, going back on topic for a quick second!

Between this thread and my recent binge of SciManDan videos, I've been watching Neil deGrasse Tyson vids as well.

I grabbed the link at a time where he talks about the Multiverse and the "chance for life."
    https://youtu.be/AyAK3QBnMGQ?t=824

I like his analogy of the "flip a coin" experiment. You take 1,000 people and flip a coin. Everyone who got Tails must sit down. Rinse and repeat until there's only one person remaining who gets Heads.
That represents how life in the Universe is made possible. Through random acts, one Universe is able to sustain life. In a multi-verse, there is always a chance that another Universe will also have life (each Universe goes through the proverbial coin-flip exercise).

So this goes back to my original stance. Our Universe is one (of many) that received the winning coin toss. We have life, and it's here on Earth. Granted, the entire Universe won the coin toss (not just Earth), so yes it's possible that life exists on another Planet in another Galaxy. I simply add the probability of another planet overcoming all of the known "threats" of the Universe (all the ways the Cosmos and a Planet tries to kill Life) and conclude that we are - in all likelihood - the most intelligent beings in this Universe.

That being said, has anyone explored the idea that Alien Visitors are really just... us humans from another time? Our future selves visiting us?
    :o

Well there went 1:22:41 mins of my life you found my weakness of watching scientifically inclined videos!

    Thanks Zenbane.

It's all LIES!!! All of this scientific mumbo jumbo is a conspiracy designed to indoctrinate weak-minded people into believing that the Earth isn't flat. You'll be telling me that the dinosaur LIE is real next!!! :o

    You crazy crazy fools.
