Question

Aliens - Fact Or Fiction..?

Well we've had a time travel thread so I thought we should have an aliens thread too.

I believe that aliens have visited and are visiting our planet. Now I don't think that there are aliens that are living here and impersonating humans, but I certainly believe that at least SOME of these UFOs captured on film and seen by people are alien spacecraft.

How am I reasoning this? Pretty simple. There have simply been too many technological leaps since the 50s to make it not being true. Just have a think about it:

  1. Integrated circuits and microchips.
  2. Credit cards and bank cards.
  3. Cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays.
  4. Kevlar
  5. Lasers
  6. Stealth bombers
  7. The Oculus Rift lol
  8. Velcro.
  9. Quantum Computers.
And then have a look back through time and you have the Pyramids, Mayan astronomy and cities, Stonehenge, the Inca's Machu Picchu and Teotihuacán in Mexico.

A great deal of these UFO sightings are around air bases so a good percentage of them can be put down to experimental aircraft, but ALL of them?

The truth is out there. Trust no one.

Aliens infiltrating the earth has always fired my imagination ever since I first saw The Invaders when I was a kid. Here's the first episode on YouTube:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q6tLP0-tYo

And as I've already I mentioned I also love The Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers films too. I might have to download the two series of The Invaders and both of the Bodysnatchers films now.

The best thing about The Invaders was the music, it was fantastic.

I've never seen The Invaders, but UFO was an awesome series, still holds up after 48 years.
You can watch the whole show on TubiTV for free, but only if you are in america (or have a vpn). I have the dvd box set.
(Strange UK doesn't have it streamed, since it was made there)
Being a Gerry Anderson series, it had exceptional miniatures.

I'm wearing my Invasion Of The Body Snatchers tshirt right now. :)

If you haven't checked it out yet, I would definitely recommend The Fourth Kind.

I definitely think we aren't alone in the universe, it's just much too large for our circumstances to be completely unique in the world.

I do agree that if they were advanced enough to travel here though, that they wouldn't be doing it for fun, or curiosity. They most likely would be scouting for habitable worlds, and likely wouldn't be friendly.

@snowdog - Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers is one of our favourite classics. We downloaded the original from YT and watch it quite frequently, as it's not very long. Reminds us of a (imo) mutch better time :) plus the old films are way better - the remakes were pretty crap and bore only a minor resemblance to the original. I've not read the book, though, so I don't know how close the original film was to it.

That's cos you're thinking like a human. There's nothing to say that aliens wouldn't be friendly to us, they could be nice and chilled out and civilised. They haven't done us any harm so far despite all the visits that they've made. B)

So the concept of being "friendly, nice, chilled out, and civilized" isn't human? Interesting :p

So let's move the topic more towards science fiction (that's what is needed to believe aliens have visited us already). Maybe Aliens are the reason we have so many incurable diseases in the world? Maybe aliens came here and dropped off a healthy dose of ebola, and a nice collection of other viruses we've yet to encounter.

Then they will return when we're wiped off the Earth.

It could be that Aliens walk around in plain site. Perhaps Mark Z is an Alien?

There was a great trilogy of books by Alan Dean Foster called The Damned. It was about an interstellar war between two factions (one that was brainwashing and genetically engineering every species they found to follow one religion, and the other a weak alliance of species that didn't want to be absorbed into the other side). But violence was considered abhorrent by almost all sentient species, it was like an entire galaxy of those fainting goats. Then one side (the independent one) discovered Earth, and they petitioned our governments for assistance. As it turned out (unsurprisingly), humans were exceedingly good at warfare. Once given advanced weaponry and space travel, we were a force to be reckoned with.

I am in the 100% definitely aliens exist. With over 100billion stars in the milky way and over 400 billion planets AND that being just one of millions of galaxies I think it is hubris to some how think we are the only planet with life.

When talking about "life on other planets," yes there is a very strong chance that at the very least, a single celled organism exists on other planets. But when talking about "aliens" ... we are talking about some species from another planet that has advanced far beyond humans to the point that they can travel vast distances on par with the speed of light. And that's where the more Fairy Tale side of things comes in to play.

Your argument, like that of many others who believe in Aliens visiting Earth, is based on the idea that "probability" is proof in itself. Just because there are billions of stars doesn't mean that Alien life on another planet exists. There are many factors required for a planet to sustain life, including that planets ability to survive millions of years in order for evolution to occur. Yet with all the forces in the Universe that are constantly trying to essentially kill life on a planet, it is hubris to think that the evolution of sentient beings is easily achievable.

What's interesting is that you actually mention one of the main reasons that life on other planets cannot sustain itself: too many stars. Do you know what happens when all those 100 billion stars die? A damn supernova!

Supernova's are just one of the many ways that the Universe is trying to murder all life. Here is a great list of all the ways the Universe is trying to kill us:
    1. Rogue Black Holes
    2. Galactic cannibalism
    3. Gamma Ray Bursts
    4. Asteroid impact
    5. Supernova
    6. Planetary Collision

And that's just the Universe. But Earth is another matter. It loves trying to kill us every day... with natural disasters, microbes.

The Universe is quite the mass murderer, and it's hubris to think that avoiding death is so easily achievable that other sentient beings are just getting along fine and inventing interplanetary travel across the cosmos.
    ;)

Note I never said I was confident that aliens for other planets had visited earth (quite the opposite in fact) just that I am fully convinced they exist. IF there was a way to to prove it either way I would bet most of what I own on it. (But there isnt so.......).
I actually hope they don't visit earth. If they did some damn fool would shoot at them and given the likely tech difference from someone able to get here it really could be game over if that happened

    Fair point @bigmike20vt

I just like to talk about the probability factor in terms of known science. Especially around the factors that involve all the ways the universe tries to kill us lol

We are extremely lucky to have survived this long on Earth considering all the deadly forces not just on this planet, but out in the cosmos. The idea that there is another species out there that has surpassed us is possible... but the notion does tend to ignore the killing factor of the Universe.

That's why I prefer to believe in the theory of Dark Matter and the Multiverse. It addresses the probably factor more scientifically, which allows for advanced species to exist once per multiverse. At which point, alien visitations would have to be multidimensional; as opposed to the the unnatural concept of speed of light travel in this Universe. Na' mean?

And yes, I did just argue that crossing a dimension is more natural than traveling at the speed of light lol
