Question

Anyone know of a good projector for 3D games and 3D films?

I don't want to spend much and might even look for a used projector if anyone knows of some good ones for 3D games and 3D movies. I would like one that used active 3D glasses Cheers!

@cybereality - You might know some also?

Yes, looks like you figured it out. I just tried it myself and the projector works fine on DVI-to-HDMI. Rift can work on adapters (I've done it) but it's sort of a hit or miss and some people have reported it not to work.

Also, please let us know how you like the projector. If you want some recommendations, I had a lot of fun with Trine 2 (didn't play the other ones). It has native 3D support and looks fantastic. I think Tomb Raider also has native 3D support and looked nice. If you want a Blu-Ray 3D movie recommendation, get Dredd. It's amazing. Resident Evil Afterlife 3D was also cool.

You would need a 3D Blu-Ray playing software, like PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theater, and of course a Blu-Ray drive on your computer.

@cybereality - Just a quick question cyber. After you have finished watching a 3D film on your projector. What do you do to then watch a 2D movie? Do you just disable Nvidia 3D Stereoscopic in Nvidia setting? Or do you just turn off 3D on your projector? I'm just wonder the best way to go about doing it to watch a 2D movie. Cheers!

@cybereality - I have just upgraded from Acer H5360 (720P) to Optoma HD142X.  I'll be connecting it to a 3d Blu Ray player.  My biggest question is - will I see a difference in 3D quality going from Acer H5360 to the new Optoma?  I was using Optoma 3DXL with the Acer, as it is not a full 3D projector so required the 3DXL to send the proper signal from the player to the projector.  The HD142X is 1080P full 3D, so I'm hoping I'll see a noticeable difference.  I'm waiting for the Optoma ZD302 glasses to be delivered, as the glasses I used with the Acer/3DXL don't seem to be compatible (the 3DXL came with a pair of ZD101s --not sure I understand why they don't work with the HD142X, but guessing it has something to do with mhz...)  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Yeah 1080p definitely looks nicer. I had 720p before, it was a nice difference for Blu-Ray. Granted, some content looks very similar (like anime, for example) and there's not a huge jump (aside from subtitles. which look much better). But for 3D Blu-Ray in particular, I think it's noticeable.

@RedRizla: Posting this here for anyone else who might be interested too.

Hi, i just got your message about checkerboard 3D in my junk mail box.
Sorry. So Samsung stopped offering checkerboard 3D in 2015 i believe. It
is also only available in certain models, mainly the higher end
starting the 7500 series and above (some 7000 had it too i believe). For
any model you buy, google search for the manual and check to make sure
it has checkerboard first, Samsung calls it "pixel mode". You can easily
search "pixel" in a pdf and find it (i think), it in the same place in
every manual. As far as enabling it in 3D Vision, its easy. You make
sure 3D VIsion is installed, go into 3D Vision options in the graphic
drivers options panel. Check the enable 3D vision option box. When that
is check 3D Vision will try to enable 3D mode whenever you load up a
game and you can turn it off at any time. Then also offer two icons you
can put in your task bar or start menu to change that option. Then you
just make sure checkerboard 3D mode is what is selected for the 3D type
in that same option panel window. Simple. The hard part is configuring
the 3D for your IPD and viewing conditions (distance and screen size)
the first time, but do let me know if you have ordered a display and i
will give you the most efficient way of calibrating your 3D, its very
easy once you get used to it, takes just a few seconds. Only other thing
is to unlock the hotkeys which alter convergence. Lastly, when you
order the display, create a login for Nvidia 3D Vision forum, there are
experts there that know everything there is to know about it and there
are many helper programs available, such as one that automatically
downloads and applies 3D fixes for games. Highly encourage you to give
it a try, even if your not sure about it, because like VR, its something
you kind of have to see to believe/understand what it can do for your
immersive gaming. Any immersive story driven game like Mass Effect, or
atmospheric game like Metro 2033 or Dead Space are taken to a whole new
immersive level and your screen simply turns into a window to another
real full sized world instead on being a picture of it. Good luck
