That's pretty much what some people say about the Rift lol
The FOV probably sucks because it's glasses as opposed to a face helmet, but the overall tech is solid based on the feedback I've received from developers whom I trust personally. I keep meaning to try it but I get busy.
The tech is pretty amazing, however, the FOV is tiny, it's like looking at a small screen a few feet away. I tried it at one of my client's offices. If they could make the FOV at 110 degrees, it would be crazy impressive.
MS likes to jump the shark with their marketing. They should never have gone with Entertaining and Gaming for HoloLens. It's real intent is to transform how people interact with the plethora of Microsoft products by moving away from physical screens. Similar to what we all do today in VR with a Virtual Desktop application, only with AR we don't have to block out the real world just to use a desktop.
I'm not too big a fan of AR for entertainment. For that... VR all the way.
Yeah, but everybody is talking about how scary these apps will be and I just don’t see it. Artificial intelligence however can be VERY scary depending on how smart it gets. Imagine an entity that understands your deepest, darkest fears and plays upon it. But that’s several years out.

We already have this on the forum, it's called @Zenbane

If AR could emulate say walls bleeding and other similar visual tricks (extend hallways like Poltergeist, etc.) I think really cool short scary narrative experiences could be manufactured. I don't get scared very easily - I just watched all 3 Insidious films in Bigscreen on Netflix at night with the lights off by myself, was awesome!
I think VR is capable of creating more thrilling experiences because it takes you away from your world - I believe AR has a ways to go before it can alter the actual world in a believable way.

Yup, I agree. VR is MUCH better at creating scary games and experiences. I'm normally very good with watching scary films and playing flat scary games but VR brings these things to a completely different level altogether.
I've only come close to noping out of something in VR twice. Once when going through the Catatonic VR experience that used to be on the Within app and once when I got killed by the Witch for the first time in Dead Secret.
The choice they made with Catatonic is a bit unfortunate though, I bet that the majority of people gave up on it before getting to the good bit because the start of the experience has you being pushed through an asylum in a wheelchair, and it's all low res and blurry because you've been doped up to the eyeballs. The good bit starts after you get pushed down the stairs because the quality and resolution jumps up.
It's now available to buy in the Dark Corner app and is well worth buying. The ending freaked the ever living FUCK out of me lol :o :D :D :D

Definitely going to have to look into that snowdog, I agree that VR definitely intensifies the tension of scary games. I have started playing through Alien Isolation, and have had to get out of it a couple times - and it is a game that I had no real problem with the first time through on flat screen. Same with Doom3 - that game was never really that scary at all - but the tension and jump scares are significantly ramped up in VR.
I watched this on Vrideo a while back and I didn't know what to really expect, so I was genuinely terrifi... I mean surprised! https://youtu.be/Jrq01b48rfs

When it comes to films, I don't scare easily either. I can watch the Exorcist alone at 3am with the Satanic Bible on my lap, and sleep like a baby after.
But if I try to get through the 2nd level in Dreadhalls... poopy diaper.
