Question

Behold the stupid thing I did!

I spilled a coke in my PC ><

It's my own dumb fault too. I spill things all the time and I should know better than to sit a drink anywhere near my PC. But I did. I went to stand up, hit my knee on the keyboard tray and the coke spilled directly through my top fan vents. Immediately the PC black screened. I (understandably) freaked out and yanked every cord out of the power strip as fast as I could. I had the whole thing unplugged in about 4 seconds but it's not looking good.

My GPU was literally dripping coke out of it. My mobo was also covered. As were all of my drives. I took everything apart as fast as I could and washed most of it in a crazy amount of 91% iso(not the mechanical drives as if any liquid got inside they are rekt either way). Things are drying now, will be a while before I know.

My guess is the mobo, GPU, 3TB, 500GB are dead for sure. 1TB and SSD maybe. CPU, PSU and RAM likely okay(if mobo didn't fry them). But yeah won't know for a while.

So laugh at my foolishness and pray to the tech Gods for my rig. I know I was dumb and I can admit it lol. >_<

I'm using a crappy laptop at the moment just to go online.

I'm glad you didn't fry everything. May I suggest that it would be much safer to keep your PC on your desk, rather than under it? Out of the spill zone that way, especially if you are, as you've said, accident-prone.

Glad it's running again. You must have used an inferior brand of cola, can you do the coke test again? Find out which brand is better.

Okay, so later today I will be preparing the "hat eating video." I've put a solid 4 hours of gaming on it last night and today and it's been rock solid. If there is anything wrong it's minor enough to be negligible and I'm not gonna worry about it. Thanks again for all the concern and offers to help! Fortunately somehow my rig is just really OP and has a strong desire to live XD

@nalex66 - Actually my rig used to be on my desk back when it was miniitx. But my desk is glass and it's only rated for 60 pounds. Putting the PC on it now that it's a mid tower would push me right to that 60 pounds and I just really don't want the whole thing to shatter and crash to the floor @_@

As for the drink situation I was gonna ban drinks from my room altogether but that proved super inconvenient because I spent so much time in here. So what I did was just decide I would keep any drinks over on this small table on the other side of the room. It's about 2.5 meters from my PC so I'd have to be just ridiculously clever to spill something in such a way as to risk my PC!

A stupid thing I did:

When I finally set up my Oculus-ready PC, I simply could not get any of the dispays to work. The Rift was pitch black and my monitor continuously showed "no signal." I spent hours between multiple tech stores buying cables and converters to see wtf the graphic card was expecting. I was about to open a ticket with Asus Support when I decided to double-check the power cords... and the power cable for the graphics card had not been pushed all the way in.

Looking good!

Nearly 3 continuous hours on and no problems. In that time I've surfed the internet, watched videos, played Rocket League, played PPSSPP, and talked on VOIP. I've had zero problems.

I will make my hat eating video soon, I promise!
