Question

Can eye exercises help improve your vision?

I am starting to lose what good site I once had and by doing a bit of research I was looking for things to slow down this processes. It might be a load of rubbish, but I've read that regular eye exercise helps you to restore your vision. What do you reckon? I don't want to waste my time on an eye exercise if there's no evidence this actually works..

The worst part is I have to take my glasses off now to read small stuff... it's a sign of needing varifocals & I always thought they were for really old people. I refuse to be really old.

I've worn glasses since I was I was about 10 years old. I have terrible vision without them (shortsighted to the point where people look like blobs until they are right close to me) - I wish all that was required to get better vision was exercise, lol

I keep thinking about saving up and getting laser eye surgery - but I don't know if I am a candidate and I have worn them for going on 20 some years now so I feel I'd just look weird without them. Part of the reason I am interested is that even though I mostly don't notice them when they are on (all day until I go to sleep) - I definitely notice when they are off and there is a relief to not having them on. Does anyone here have experience with laser eye surgery?

I seriously wouldn't go near laser surgery. The risks are small these days but if you get the side effects, there's little that can be done... dry eyes or worse. I'm ok with god rays in my Rift but I'd be distressed if it happened in real life.

The main problem though is that laser doesn't stop your eye prescription from changing over time. So after a few years, you're going to need glasses again, or more laser & it can only be done a few times. That's what happened to 2 of my friends who had it.

@SimonSays28 - And there was me about to ask you to join my Eye Gym. It only costs £500 a year to join, but I just need a big bunch of people to join my workout classes.  :D

Thanks DaftnDirect - I have read some of the horror stories, and I don't think I'd be a candidate simply because my eyes have gotten worse every time I have updated my prescription. But I would love to not have to wear glasses - one can dream, lol

I have read tons of information on this and yes mostly it is age related but the latest cool trend is to no longer get lasik  and instead just take out your inner lens with a man made lens and they even have them now with auto darken so you never have to wear those super large shades you see old people wear.    My co worker got it and so now he no longer has to wear sun glasses since they auto darken. research research research

That sounds terrifying - the regular surgery sounds bad enough (one of the reasons I've held off for so long is I have a hard time even using eye drops). LOL

I had Lasik about 17 years ago. I was extremely near-sighted. It worked out well for me and I’m glad I did it—I’ve enjoyed perfect distance vision ever since. The loss of my near vision is just age, and is pretty recent (past few years).

As far as I understood from my optician is that for Lasik, your eye's need to be stabilized out first. so if it's stable at the same prescription for 3 years, then Lasik is an option. It's like what? 1500 euro's these days?

I think it is safer because at least no laser is resurfacing your  cornea or underneath it.
Not sure now but many years ago when youtube was new I remember watching lasik mistakes that ended peoples lives.

I am sure now the tech is almost flawless today.    But everyone's eyes are different.
