Question

Come on Palmer, freak us!

So,

it's been over a year now since we got a glimpse at what VR might bring us through our beloved Development Kit. We've been kept busy with a steady stream of tiny bits of information regarding what OculusVR is up to behind closed doors. However, when it comes to solid facts on the current state of development, official statements on current or future specs or tasty new images out of the development process and the latest HMD-creations there's hardly anything new brought to us backers, developers and straight enthusiasts.

What I'm kindly asking you, Palmer, is wouldn't it be about time to pull down those panties and show us what you got in store right now? Maybe as a little Christmas present to the community? :D

Kind regards,
David

I agree with Calanar. I've been following this thread and other related ones for a while, and it's clear that you're not yourself right now Martin (sorry, I don't know your real name).

The thread that keeps on giving, since Palmer has been able to use his awesome Palantir connections and found my real name, why keep it from the rest of you? it is william wallace, they made a movie about my great great great great great great great grandpa with Mel Gibson. (about freedom, fighting tyranny, etc etc) Braveheart https://www.facebook.com/billy.wallace.1690 See my wallace tartan? ;) A long line of angry scotsman masons (never made 33rd level - lol!) who drink too much double malt whiskey and are tired of the english stealing our north sea oil! (but damn if the scottish independence party isn't about to stop all that thieving! (although a grandfather on my dad's side was a pure latino mexican)

No one should be making fun of you. It can't be easy living with diabetes, which is a plague on mankind btw, and one of the reasons I've become passionate about VR. I believe we will drastically reduce the number of people suffering from that condition once we start using omni-directional treadmills to add healthy exertion to the passive lifestyles that are slowly killing us.

Every court needs a clown, every kingdom a jester, to lump ridicule on the king that no one else would dare do lest their heads be severed. (and hopefully give the king a needed perspective of his citizens)

http://anengineersaspect.blogspot.com/2011/07/nikola-tesla-mr-tesla-explains-why-he.html What does Tesla say on crackpots?

"Discontent makes for cranks and unnatural people. There seems to be an uncommon number of them about to-day. This is one of the reasons I remain apart from the crowds. The public, or semi-public, character is the target for all sorts of attacks and unpleasant communications.

"For example, I used to receive all sorts of strange notes, many of them letters from cranks threatening my life, because they had read about my experiments in manufacturing lightning bolts. They wrote that they believed I was using these lightning flashes to kill them!
"It seems to me that anything which adds to the great discontent which we observe on every side to-day must be a bad influence on our life. Women who keep themselves agitated by their tremendous ambition to beat man at his game are losing at the same time something that counts for more in the end, it seems to me, than the empty honors that success in business or one of the professions can ever give.

The diabetes is partly why I went to see Jamie Kelly and his VRcade tech, I am in desperate need of getting up off the couch or the living room and going to a VRgym maybe where I can interact with real people. As Jamie points out and Kevin with a lot of his good out of home entertainment stinger report, doing a good VRcade or VRgym in a house maybe too costly for most of us, but in each community to have a large space dedicated to that solution, maybe makes more economic sense. Yes my emotional outburst is totally unacceptable, and goes further to prove the generosity of Palmer and Cyber, certainly anywhere else on the web, I would have been banned long ago, there is a lot of goodness in those Jedi that I hope their now corporate affiliation doesn't wither or destroy over time.

It's normal to feel angry when life hasn't been treating you well. Ill health, bereavements, failed relationships,

In my 20's my fiance aborted our 7 month old son, wiped me out for about 2 years emotionally, illegal since it was past the first trimester I thought, and I had no legal recourse since it was her body, my son is dead, and like Tesla said, that emotional pain of dealing with females and thier unfair status in our courts is not something I wish on any human being, man or woman. And why I support Tesla's views on relationship and marriage. Along comes jaron lanier, palmer luckey, and other VR pioneers, mixed with an HMD and a realdoll, I was going to fix some "relationship" and sexual issues and not tie myself to useless drama, emotions, or court tyranny, but sadly other humans on this planet want to stop me from that, and those Braveheart DNA genes rise up in me AGAIN to fight this tyranny! viewtopic.php?f=26&t=5473&p=75400#p75400

Dont count on it. Jessica Valenti, leading online feminist, wanted realistic sex dolls to be banned on the grounds that they ‘objectify’ women. “the Human-Robot Personal Relationship Act and under the direction of the Ministry of Robots and Artificial Intelligence, to be established in Ontario and other Canadian provinces and territories at the end of next year.” I don’t know how long ago this was righten or if it passed.

Only yesterday I posted my discovery that Jessica Valenti, leading online feminist, wanted realistic sex dolls to be banned on the grounds that they ‘objectify’ women.

Obviously, as learned readers of this blog will know by now, as well as anybody with an ounce of common sense, Valenti and her fellow feminists want to ban sex dolls because such things, increasingly realistic, threaten to give men sexual independence from women.

unemployment and physical pain - they put you in a dark place. Like Calanar says though, venting frustrations publicly doesn't help, it only hurts. And if it escalates in tone you're going to put your friend Cyber in a difficult position. I'd hate to see the forums deprived of such an intelligent member because you crossed a line in a moment of anguish.

Actually it did make me feel a lot better, hugely so, and the medicine afterwords even more so, but you are right, it only upsets the collective community and is totally uncalled for, seems in Michaels last post I upset him, I am so sorry, I really did wish michael would talk about his game, future games, and what FOV's they are doing. (do you remember the scene in the graham greene movie with brendan frasier and michael caine where caine says, no this is exactly the time to show your azz?) the quiet american: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0258068/ LOL! Cyber has a good paying job, he can go to mcdonalds and order a hamburger off of resources from that job, however if the forums have me here or not, how can I take that to mcdonalds and buy cowmeat off a clown? What's in it for me? You seem to say you would "hate" it for me to be banished, will you send me 10 dollars to buy a denny's meal then? Or like others suggested, do you want me to continue to contribute even up and including my own destruction and starvation? Wow, its nice to be loved so much, to be wanted to the point where I am only useful for what freebies the vampires can suck out of me, but ask for a hamburger back, and f u. LOL!

Regarding the attribution of credit... a lot of us are helping out in whatever way we can. I do it, and don't ask for anything in return, but I've received thanks publicly and privately, and it's nice.

Wow! How do you eat, buy gas, pay for medicine, etc etc on that reputation? I gave palmer something that has put tremendous resources at his disposal, he says no it was worthless, that if I hadn't gave it to him, he would have found it anyways, he "assures" me of that, LOL! So while palmer and his family are certainly assured of having the chance to buy cowmeat off a clown, and whatever medicine they need, I don't, I need to know your secret, how do I keep giving away for free, and not starve to death like you seem to have figured out? Abrash talked about this too and so did Ben Franklin, so it is a good point to consider: http://oculusrift.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1904
So from a purely selfish perspective, sharing information is one of the best investments you can make. Mabrash May 15, 2013 That, as we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously.-Benjamin Franklin

Even when I make mistakes or take the occasional liberty I've yet to be reprimanded. There's a real spirit of camaraderie and respect even among competitors and it's a pity to see a breakdown in communication here.

While the spirit of camraderie may help you get a hamburger off of ronald the clown at mcdonalds, I don't know how to do it, I am not smart enough, how do I tell the people at mcdonalds, I am hungry, give me hamburger, I helped palmer with VR revolution, they laugh at me, I tell them no wait, I helped yuri get into the country for IZ3D help, they still laugh, I say no wait, I loaned neil 4K camera, spent 10K+ on going to conferences to help him and the community, give me hamburger, and they laugh some more. Face it bub, you want anything you can suck from me or anyone else for free, but if we start asking for some "return" on that comraderie, as KBK says, fat chance counting on the goodness of people's hearts, better to send in lawyers backed by armed enforcers to "compel" their camraderie eh? ;) As Jadorwosky said though, and so many others in so many ways, that is the human condition, our innate programming and DNA.

My advice would be to take a step back and look at where your posts are taking you - is it worth it?

Where are they taking me? Hmmm, perhaps the time I spend here, that is costing me time in other places I could make money I could buy a hamburger at mcdonalds on. My family needs medicine. Is it worth it to you if I had got banned from neils site before giving info and an idea to Palmer, probably not, for I concede that VR would be where it is today, with or without me, or Palmer, carmack has said it several times, the right confluence of forces was coming together, someone many people would initiate it, so you would be in the same spot you are today, someone bringing you VR goodness, but there is a chance Palmer wouldn't be where he is today if I had been banned sooner than I was. He "assures" me that is incorrect though. So is it worth it if I get swatted like a mosquito? Or banned? Again what's in it for me, my history seems to show I have contributed a lot to many as much as possible, and by and large I have gotten zero back, worse, ridicule and lies told on me. So you tell me, is it worth it for me to keep helping?

If it were me, I'd go back through them and edit out comments attacking Palmer's character, and send him a PM making peace.
Although I am very regretful for the emotional outburst, I still stand behind all my points, and some of them are attacking palmer's character and iribes, and neils. You don't say what is wrong with those points, you don't believe like Michael did that palmer was tearing down and rebuilding many hmd's before meeting me and cyber at mtbs3d. No I will not do that, however I will offer you a solution since you seem to think this needs doing. Its good to always be critical, even of me, I have so many dead bodies in my closet, I can have my own zombie army, and like you I used to criticize neil how foolish it made him look to run a stereo3d site and have no stereo3d pictures, so I loaned him a 4K camera that he decided he needed enough to keep and steal from me. So if you think my posts needs editing, I will empower you with the ability to do so, YOU do the work, I am not going to do it, my account password is 12345, get it on it! Make it so! With my full blessings. Or are you one of those people that complain, and when offered a solution to address your complaints, are too lazy to implement their own advice?

It's just a suggestion, I don't mean to antagonize you or inflame the situation. The important thing is to put more effort into looking after yourself.

It's a good suggestion, your idea, I agree with it, you have been given what you need to implement it, go for it! Make it so!

Wishing you health, wealth and happiness this Christmas.

    Sincerely, Ben.

Thank you Ben, I know you mean well, and I wish you a wonderful Christmas too. I really do like Palmer, but I don't like what he says about my helping him years ago being worthless = there is a chance he would be in the same spot, but there is a butterfly effect chance he would not, I also understand he is possibly tied by lawyers, corporate issues, all the evils KBK said ties him, and you and michael both seem to say well, perhaps this is better handled privately, but maybe these are things that need to be addressed in Public so we can stop contributing to a system that at the macro scale is really harmful in many ways to many human beings. A christmas wish from Sting, Bono, Phil Collins (who is the monkey at the drums) and many musical giants talking about the evil bankers, financiers, corporations that enslave this planet globally:

mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4123 I am looking into that LEEP VR I lack practical 3d knowledge, I have found some good links, but I am not sure if they are the ones you were talking about. Would you mind direct linking me to them?

Hey William, I'm of French descent, but I love a good single malt too :)
I don't know if the SNP will get their way on independence. I'd be a little sad seeing the UK break up, but it's important to have the vote.

Every court needs a clown, every kingdom a jester, to lump ridicule on the king that no one else would dare do

That's an interesting comparison. Believe it or not, I do a little of that myself ;)

a good VRcade or VRgym in a house maybe too costly for most of us, but in each community to have a large space dedicated to that solution, maybe makes more economic sense.

Well, that depends on how expensive your gym membership is. A couple of years without might let you pay for your own, and then save you money. Plus, I really don't want to drive anywhere (likely a long distance in my case). Having it in my home is more convenient.

In my 20's my fiance aborted our 7 month old son

I'm really sorry to hear that. Must be a terrible experience to have at any age.

do you want me to continue to contribute even up and including my own destruction and starvation?

    No, of course not.

how do I keep giving away for free, and not starve to death

Donation has to be done within reason. The more you have of a commodity to spare, the more of that you give - be it time, money or ideas. If you're the one in need, then you must take care of yourself first. I help in my spare time, and that's what I give - my time.

"we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously."-Benjamin Franklin

That's a great quote, this Benjamin agrees.

fat chance counting on the goodness of people's hearts

That's the duality of man - but there is hope for us.

my history seems to show I have contributed a lot to many as much as possible, and by and large I have gotten zero back, worse, ridicule and lies told on me. So you tell me, is it worth it for me to keep helping?

I'm grateful to anyone who's made an effort to advance humanity forward. No one should ridicule you. Yes, I think it's worth continuing.

if you think my posts needs editing, I will empower you with the ability to do so

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that (it's not a question of effort, after all I do edit my own posts sometimes!). I wasn't complaining, I suggested it for your sake, in the hope that by making peace with Palmer, he might give you the accreditation that you desire.

I also understand he is possibly tied by lawyers, corporate issues

Quite possibly, another reason for abandoning this approach. You may find it cathartic, but as you said yourself earlier, it may be time that could be better spent elsewhere. From your other posts, it sounds like you have an impressive resume. Wouldn't that be a more compelling reason for someone to hire you than a footnote saying you passed some information on? I'm not belittling what you did, I'm just trying to imagine myself in the place of a potential employer who is more concerned with next quarter's balance sheet than the fate of mankind. Whatever's holding you back may be more complex than I realize, so I'm sorry if that's no help.

maybe these are things that need to be addressed in Public so we can stop contributing to a system that at the macro scale is really harmful in many ways to many human beings.

I agree, and I find discussions on that subject edifying. It's the way you characterize Palmer sometimes that concerns me. Facts are fine, so are opinions, but certain phrases and terms can be hurtful, and may breach forum rules. Please be wary, so we can all enjoy your debates with geekmaster, KBK et al. No hidden agenda here, I'm just trying to help.

On the issue of giving, I think we can all agree (unless you're Gordon Gekko) that it would be a better world if we all gave to each other, instead of having to take. Materially it makes no difference, but emotionally it does, as well as the latter creating a damaging power struggle.

When I was young I used to love reading Aesop's Fables. My favorite story was the contest between the Cloud and the Sun. They wanted to see who was more powerful, so they agreed on a challenge - which of them could make a man remove his jacket? The Cloud tried to be forceful, but the wind and rain only made him pull his jacket tighter. The Sun in contrast was gentle and warm, so the man removed it.

The moral being (I think!) that the more you try to take from someone, the more they will resist you. The more you give, the more inclined a person will be to give back. That's human nature too - not in effect at all times sadly but it's true.

What benefits the group benefits the individual. That is also hardwired into our DNA. There were doubtless strands of our species who were disinclined to help each other, and natural selection weeded them out - because even now, no man is an island. We rely on each other to survive, and giving causes less, precious blood to be spilled than taking does.
