Question

Come on Palmer, freak us!

So,

it's been over a year now since we got a glimpse at what VR might bring us through our beloved Development Kit. We've been kept busy with a steady stream of tiny bits of information regarding what OculusVR is up to behind closed doors. However, when it comes to solid facts on the current state of development, official statements on current or future specs or tasty new images out of the development process and the latest HMD-creations there's hardly anything new brought to us backers, developers and straight enthusiasts.

What I'm kindly asking you, Palmer, is wouldn't it be about time to pull down those panties and show us what you got in store right now? Maybe as a little Christmas present to the community? :D

Kind regards,
David

    Damn you get me excited KBK!! It has been almost 2 decades since I have really looked at any of this alternative energy stuff.

    http://www.extremetech.com/computing/172273-supreme-court-agrees-to-address-key-issue-can-software-be-patented

    Just read this KBK! Maybe score a winning round for the light side of the force! Interesting paragraph from the comments:
    Heath Parsons
    I recommend everyone read "Sequential Innovation, Patents, And Imitation" by James Bessen and Eric Maskin. It will be a very lengthy read but is incredibly exhaustive on the mathematics behind patents and their relationship to ingenuity.
    Verbatim copying is allowed for noncommercial use it says, so here's the abstract. (from the first link, which references the MIT abstract. The second link is a Harvard copy)
    "Abstract: How could such industries as software, semiconductors, and computers have been so innovative despite historically weak patent protection? We argue that if innovation is both sequential and complementary—as it certainly has been in those industries—competition can increase firms’ future profits thus offsetting short-term dissipation of rents. A simple model also shows that in such a dynamic industry, patent protection may reduce overall innovation and social welfare. The natural experiment that occurred when patent protection was extended to software in the 1980's provides a test of this model. Standard arguments would predict that R&D intensity and productivity should have increased among patenting firms. Consistent with our model, however, these increases did not occur. Other evidence supporting our model includes a distinctive pattern of cross-licensing in these industries and a positive relationship between rates of innovation and firm entry."

    or

    It goes to show that Apple, Microsoft, and Nokia are some of the greedy players that stifle new creation by suing over stuff like "will insert letter when screen tapped" or something of that sort.

    "There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root." - Henry David Thoreau

    The problem is that the thousands are sitting in the branches and can't see the root. The system of scarcity has blinded them,and in scientific terms, it was recently found that this also narrows their intellect, in the formation and reality sense (biological results in medical research proves this as a final point in conclusional 'ego sum' analysis, that the scarcity mentality is what is dumbing us down).

    I have been reading about research where memories and fears are passed through sperm, http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/171990-scientists-prove-that-fears-and-memories-can-be-inherited-via-sperm and it makes me take pause, a mental system that was perhaps necessary when we were foraging for food in the jungles eons ago is actively working against us as a society now and could destroy us. All my research of Tesla and Norbert Weiner, they were both convinced that around this time in the future, billions of humans would perish as the world readjusted to new paradigms, but perhaps we could overcome. I know with some of the military people I talk to, they are terrified about the change of the US petrodollar system, and for those that keep up with it, even though Obamacare is big in the news now, Obama has said energy independence is job 1 of his administration.

    I just listened at some researcher on coast to coast radio claiming that while the new generation of kids are very brilliant, maybe 1/3rd with IQ's in the 150's or higher, but autism rates are also going up, and another third of the population of new children are very violent and she predicted they may become the worst imaginable sociopaths. Just what the world needs, a third of our children becoming DR. EVIL! Brilliant but predispositioned to extreme sociopathic tendencies if I remember correctly.

    From the financial side, I worked on the political campaign of this guy http://www.moslereconomics.com (probably one of the greatest govt bond fund traders alive) and he consistently derided our government and the fed for constant errors in not understanding artificially created scarcities as relating to finance and how the whole system and unemployment policy was so negative on the social welfare of mankind. In the grand scheme of things, he said it was MURDER to not allow the financial levers to be adjusted properly where people like Carmack who wanted to do good works on this planet could, that limiting him and so many others with falsely created scaracities was pure evil.

    Going further, he completely destroyed several of his colleagues at the fed reserve who he claimed practiced the greatest evil on the planet, driving our best and brightest minds into matters of financial abstraction to reap the greatest rewards from society. Minds that could be making advances in science, cancer research, VR, asteroid defense, etc etc but instead being wasted on developing new algorithms for high frequency trading for the AI neural networks and quantum entanglements to out-trade other finance houses :( He was not willing to say it 10 years ago, that it was not a matter of just stupidity, but of evil and purposeful design, but he has been saying that somewhat lately. He now openly criticizes the administration and certain key policy makers for purposefully doing great evil to mislead the masses. Like so many before him, he then got to feel the full brunt of corrupt political processes and vote rigging and other shenanigans that he would not have believed in just a decade or so ago, he has withdrawn from the public discourse he used to do when he tasted the real power of the darkside on this planet!! In fact this is something I have witnessed with many friends and colleagues, they are gung ho, passionate people, then they get a taste of the threat of pain from this world, loss of career, loss of respect, and they effectively shut down, they begin to live in fear or apathy, and lose thier passion that drove them to want to do great things that would help all of us. I have so many friends that began to live in fear, this is such a huge loss. I often think of that film blade runner, where the replicants always live in fear.

    The root is all forms of energy control, which becomes the limit, focus and polarization of mind/outlook/'way of being' of all humanity.

    Right, this is a huge nut to crack, I remember watching a william H Macy - Mamet production - the water engine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRrkOGHqVW0 and thinking yes this is exactly how they shut down challenges to the system.

    The door lock and violence enacted upon those researchers who dare to delve into over-unity devices, gravity devices, electrostatic type energy devices and so on, that system of control is in the act of being breached, right now.

    Another favorite youtube link of mine, Donald Sutherland (hunger games - where he says he hopes that film inspires people to revolt against the darth vaders on this planet) and Kate Bush, cloudbusting, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pllRW9wETzw about Wilhelm Reich. Which of course inspired the utah saints - KBK - you give me hope something good is gonna happen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv3vG-TVhaY

    One of my old friends at university was a top math/physics PHD, he was good friends with Shermer of the skeptics society (don't go drinking with Shermer - LOL! He might pull your panties down - LOL!!!), and he introduced me to this James Randi guy once, and it was always SO negative with that crowd, and I kept throwing up to him, what about schlieman finding Troy, when so many academics said it was PURE MYTH, anyways we often got into debates about the first microprocessors (where he was an expert) and he always through up to me the 8 bit stuff was all there was in the 70's, then my AI professor said go hit him with this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP944 about a 20 bit processor that no one really knew about, after that, my friend said who knows what are in the dark halls of darth vader and the defense industry, but it blew his mind that there was a 20 bit processor around and he knew nothing about it until decades later and he was one of the top CS researchers at university urbana champaign, so later on randi and shermer and other skeptics were at dragoncon and old Graham Hancock showed up, and it was hilarious watching them all go at each other!! My friend couldn't believe the commercial industry hadn't developed something greater than the intel 4004 for so long while the defense industry had something so much greater. I was just a young pup, but he assured me we would NEVER find anything overunity wise, it violated too many established laws of physics and nothing revolutionary would be found at the margins or the branches of science. I like to think of that GEEK MASTER quote, about the roots and branches of science - what was it specifically GEEK MASTER? Of course now dark matter and dark energy are changing some ideas. Here it is: "The GREATEST discoveries shall be found in pursuit of diminishing returns." —geekmaster LOL! This friend of mine has maybe around 190 IQ and would NOT agree with geekmaster, he thinks all the great stuff has been found/invented, lasers, satellites, rockets! LOL!

    The theoretical results bolster the relatively new and exciting idea that the laws of gravity holding together the universe may not be fundamental, but arise from something else: quantum entanglement.

    Great stuff!

    There is a ton of articles and research papers coming out in these areas, over the past few years, and it is now peaking, which is why the panic in these sociopathic energy control systems is rising to a fever pitch.

    Was talking to some professors/administrators at USF (university of south florida) and they were in disgust at how the NOAA and other government agencies were obfuscating and outright lying about issues relating to the entire gulf oil spill disaster. Like Mosler above, when they tasted the real darkside on this planet, some resigned, couldn't handle how dark things could become in life and shattered their hope. Frankly it was shocking to me how easily they were willing to lay down, how fragile thier sensibilities were, it just wasn't worth it to them.

    http://www.blackagendareport.com/ Glen Ford has been doing a hero's effort on exposing so many lies, obfuscation, corruption - the wars that are being waged, human life being destroyed to keep the status quo.

    Interesting article. I can only add I remember larry krauss talking about the interesting aspect of handedness regarding I think neutrinos, he seemed to infer there was some interesting discoveries still needing to be made to unravel that mystery. I recently read Gleick's "The Information" and he talked about that stuff in section 3 on eberhard and maxwells demon and he seemed to conclude there were doubts if we would ever be able to send information, he said something about the medium being the message.

    Geekmaster! Those pictures are amazing. You and KBK have brought up some old memories I had long forgotten (I wish I had marilu henners memory: http://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2012-11-23/marilu-henner-life-highly-superior-autobiographical-memory-rebroadcast where I could remember every detail of every day of my life. Imagine if we genetically engineered our politicians with this ability, no more I forgot what I did back then!

    Decades ago I was on so many old usenet forums, and there was some group of people always pushing this keely net stuff, fascinating information that always had such interesting ideas.

    and I had forgotten about it til just now, so googling keely net we get this: http://www.keelynet.com/ and and article about this gravity machine with google map coordinates: 40.763176, -88.012706

    And there was this article on keelynet, http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/japanese-engineers-plan-to-turn-the-moon-into-a-giant-solar-panel-station-8969866.html LOL! I guess they don't wany anymore fukushimas!! Wow, queue up memories of SimCity where the microwaves from the moon destroy your city, or what about "the moon is a harsh mistress" where the moon people take over and threaten planet earth with a weapon to get their freedom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8fXt4w9y2U Damn youtube even has that audiobook.

    Ah yes, keelynet... I read their stuff in the early days of the internet, mailing list style. They have some interesting stuff:
    http://www.keelynet.com/news/113013g.html

    I always got a kick from this stuff too:
    http://sparkbangbuzz.com/zinc-osc-2/zinc-osc3.htm
    FYI, that page is about a "crystal set" transmitter, using a DIY scorched-zinc tunnel diode as the only active component, which is awesome, IMHO. And here is a link to the earlier experiments that lead to this transmitter:
    http://www.sparkbangbuzz.com/els/zincosc-el.htm

    Also, his flame triodes are cool -- a vacuum tube without the vacuum, and without the tube!
    http://www.sparkbangbuzz.com/flame-amp/flameamp.htm
    He demonstrates amplifiers and oscillators with these devices.

    But what really first attracted me to his site was his DIY TEA laser (room temperature and pressure AIR laser):
    http://www.sparkbangbuzz.com/tealaser/tealaser7.htm
    Just some sheet metal and a long spark gap makes a laser, steampunk style!

    Freaky DIY kitchen electronic components, really... There is more to know and more to learn, always... Some people are not limited by what they are taught by others... :D

    Keelynet has cool ideas, but Nyle Steiner actually DOES cool stuff (like Ben Krasnow, Jeri Ellsworth, and other awesome makers). We need more of these (my) kinds of people...

    People don’t actually like creativity.

    In the United States we are raised to appreciate the accomplishments of inventors and thinkers—creative people whose ideas have transformed our world. We celebrate the famously imaginative, the greatest artists and innovators from Van Gogh to Steve Jobs. Viewing the world creatively is supposed to be an asset, even a virtue. Online job boards burst with ads recruiting “idea people” and “out of the box” thinkers. We are taught that our own creativity will be celebrated as well, and that if we have good ideas, we will succeed.

    It’s all a lie. This is the thing about creativity that is rarely acknowledged: Most people don’t actually like it. Studies confirm what many creative people have suspected all along: People are biased against creative thinking, despite all of their insistence otherwise.

    http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/science/2013/12/creativity_is_rejected_teachers_and_bosses_don_t_value_out_of_the_box_thinking.html

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    My personal experience in creativity, which is how I live, the larger part of who I am:
    People attack me for it, they slag me for it, they ridicule me for it and they call me a retard, a freak, some sort of blithering idiot.
    The general response pattern is quite polarized - few hew to any sort of middle line. On one hand you get some bizarre form of worship (definitely not wanted as it is part of the second behavior's origins) or... derision and near death threats. As a matter of fact, I have had on line death threats. Real ones. At least one was uttered by a person equipped to do so and physically close enough to get it done. The last resort of the illiterate, is to turn to violence to get their way (desire).
    Is that enough freak for some of you? The kind of fucked up psychology that reflects back as a negative that has to be lived to be believed? All over what? Proposing a better way of life and a better future?
    Threatening the average man's intellect with a slightly bigger range of mind (coming from another) can feel like a death of sorts. Akin to witnessing one's own obsolescence, as a living thing, in front of them. It isn't that, really... it just feels that way.
    How does that go again? Oh yes.The average can sometimes (hell, most times) confuse angry sociopathic derision and a commanding attitude....with intelligence. For each of them can tell the average person things that are painful to hear. One is telling them lies, to get what they want (think faux tv and that entire world), the other is telling them truths they don't emotionally want or understand (the intelligent side of the equation). Since the average have no capacity to discern, they tend to see both as the same. Thus the nasty and violent sociopaths can lead the average by the nose... by peppering the lie with ideas that taste a bit like candy. Which is why the world is a screwed up as it is today: The median of intelligence , the bulk of humanity (the average person) has not the discernment to understand what is going on, nor do they possess the desire/will to change that.
    Intelligence... is not inherent - it is a point in understanding. Q: When does a fire become self sustaining?
    We should blame education system. It supresses childrens' creativity in favor of teaching them standardized answers to standardized questions. There were some serious bunch of serious papers about this, but I can't recall anything particular.
    People aren't born stupid. People are made stupid.
