Question

Come on Palmer, freak us!

So,

it's been over a year now since we got a glimpse at what VR might bring us through our beloved Development Kit. We've been kept busy with a steady stream of tiny bits of information regarding what OculusVR is up to behind closed doors. However, when it comes to solid facts on the current state of development, official statements on current or future specs or tasty new images out of the development process and the latest HMD-creations there's hardly anything new brought to us backers, developers and straight enthusiasts.

What I'm kindly asking you, Palmer, is wouldn't it be about time to pull down those panties and show us what you got in store right now? Maybe as a little Christmas present to the community? :D

Kind regards,
David

    People don’t actually like creativity.

That's why "starving artists" are so common, and the most famous art only obtained its value after the DEATH of its creator.

Also why truly creative inventors who bring NEW (outside the mainstream box) ideas into play get shunned by the status quo.

Regarding fame and wealth, it's the FAKE "boy bands" and celebrity actors who who make all the money, acting out the creativity of others who provide them their material and get paid FAR less... But even their "big money" is small compared to that siphoned off by their handlers (such as Simon Cowell, and other celebrity producers)...

After all, there is a reason producers are called that, and those they manage are only "artists"...

But regarding science, only nerds understand that. And nerds have been made fun of for generations.

Hopefully, the MAKER movement will continue to grow, and VR can be a great tool to fuel that movement.

Creators will bring us a brave new world (i.e. the technological singularity), shattering the status quo. People will be afraid of that, when they notice it heading their direction...

We should blame education system. It supresses childrens' creativity in favor of teaching them standardized answers to standardized questions. There were some serious bunch of serious papers about this, but I can't recall anything particular.

People aren't born stupid. People are made stupid.

And they are taught to post "TL;DR" replies to posts they did not read. And to call posts they do not want to read "off topic" in a thread that is somewhat off-topic (or at lease ill-suited to a DEVELOPER forum) right from its first post... Developers create the future, and that is what we are discussing here (including the first post). For consumers, getting too close to creativity can be uncomfortable. It is said that crazy people smell funny, and there is a fine line between genius and insanity... People do not like strange smells (a hard-wired danger signal).

Doesn't look like anyone has broken the rules, but if the thread continues to be off-topic I will move it to the lounge.

Is your intention that only yourself and Palmer can post to this thread, or what? If that were the case, perhaps a PM would be more appropriate than a forum thread...

Lol! Geekmaster, revenge of the nerds! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zr20w3vbd4E Here is Bernard Chapin, fighting for male rights (like Tesla did before him http://anengineersaspect.blogspot.com/2011/07/nikola-tesla-mr-tesla-explains-why-he.html) Bernard points out about 2 minutes into his video what is happening with STEM, how certain people don't think they should have to learn physics because it hurts their "feelings" when they can't grasp the concept (so we must dumb down the universities) So some person decides her physics thesis shouldn't be about anything physics related, but how failing to learn physics and math equations made her feel! Hey KBK and GEEK, its like the old toffler book futureshock, and the new one "presentshock" - things are changing so fast, so much progress, so many people want it to slow down, they can't cope, the stress is too high in modern society for them. They start WINNING like charlie sheen with hookers and blow. I try to encourage them to stop trying to control what is obviously out of control or beyond their control and they will feel so much better, but we all have our stubbornness I suppose.

KBK from the same guy that gave us the mamet "water engine" movie link. (I just watched it again last night, damn William Macy slams it down on Joe Montegna - "I think you will find that will not be the truth!" lol!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bhh3TR4gtk Overunity issues and problems he sees with how maxwell's equations are taught.

Popopinsel, moderation in all things, including moderation. Great apologies if you are upset, perhaps you can get someone to remove the offensive posts that are bothering you. I know all about thread drift, Palmer came over to reddit and completely took over a thread I had about Palantir technologies and NSA monitoring of virtual worlds, even after I asked him to stop coming on that thread, he continued, people sometimes are very passionate and don't think about the considerations of others, I humbly apologize Popopinsel. (and no hate for Palmer, I know we all are only human and have our passions)

The only moderation I'd recommend is that when clever, geek, and kbk are all on the same thread, have less than twenty responses per page so that I don't have to scroll so far down to see each new post. For those of us who feel that TL is never long enough.

Maybe Palmer hasn't said anything yet because the only update to come is 1080p?

Ah, yes, the thread you made to discuss our supposed announcement of a Palantir funding deal we never made.

On topic: We will have some good stuff to announce soon, sorry for the relative silence. We share whenever we can, anything we keep to ourselves is done so for good reason. Thanks for the patience!
