Question

Did Zenbane and Atmos73 deserve the ban hammer?

Title says it all, just curious to see the communities opinion.

Atmos73 is/was a cool person and just defended himself from Zenbane. Zenbane talks to people SO condescending, its almost laughable. I PROMISE you, he wouldn't act like that, or talk to people like that in real life. I try to treat people online, how I would treat them in real life. Zenbane on the other hand, attacks people on so many levels as others stated before, this isn't news. After the smoke clears, this place is going to be better in the long run, WITHOUT Zenbane. I believe Atmos73 contributed greatly to the forum and I personally made purchases based on his feedback alone.(Onward etc..)

Zenbane is like a turd, that wont flush. (the mods MADE him flush :) )

Let's be honest guys. You know the people that want Atmos and Zenbane back just want the forum to be entertaining again. Sorta like all the people that sit down with their popcorn and watch reality dramas on TV.

There should be a whole section on this forum just for flame wars- anything goes!

This actually isn't true, the forum has always been pretty entertaining. (imo, at least since I've joined) I simply remember a pretty large number of good contributions, and think he deserves another shot. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and nothing will change and he'll get banned again. However, I still think that any capable person proven to contribute, deserves a second chance. I don't advocate or attempt to justify personal attacks.

As I mentioned earlier, I did plan to this being a temporary ban for both users. As we are leading into the holidays in the US, I felt it would be a good time to show them some good fortune and unban them. Please, I would advise people to not get into any scuffles with them. If you see something you don't like, don't respond and make things worse. You can PM me or one of the other mods and we will take a look. Thanks.

    Awesome.
You do realize though, after all this discussion about them, they may feel like Hollywood stars

    @Zenbane and @Atmos73.
    Welcome back.
Do you have any words of wisdom you wish to share with us all after your time in purgatory?

That's assuming they ever decide to come back and see if the ban is lifted.

To be honest, I had stopped checking the forums for a while because of all the arguments consistently derailing threads that could have been productive discussions. It wasn't like they were trying to solve any problems, just taking any excuse they could to bash Oculus and their products. If I had been moderating these forums, they would have been banned a lot earlier than they did.

You know, I always knew that @LZoltowski would find a way to stop my
forward momentum on the Activity board. He made the threat many a times, but
I had no idea he would stoop so low as to rally for my banning. But jokes on
you, LZ! I’m back, and still in second place. Muah!

I’d like to thank the Academy for nominating me to receive this award. You know, I didn’t even realize I was nominated at first. It was a wintry afternoon and I was climbing a 20-foot ladder in order to get on the roof of a 2-story home. The task was to put up some lovely Christmas lights. It was quite the lengthy session and what I loved most about it was the fact that I was able to do any of that at all in the first place. Because for as long as I can remember, I have maintained a very uncontrollable phobia of heights.

Anything over 15 feet pretty much paralyzes me. Yet there I was… walking up and down a tall ladder and climbing up on the roof without a care in the world. I attribute this breakthrough to Virtual Reality and my Oculus Rift. It took me about 3 months to get my VR legs and overcome the fear that came with standing on that 500+ foot platform in the Oculus Dreamdeck, fly around in Eve-Valkyrie, and hang out in space with Apollo. And this Christmas lights project was going to put all of that to the test; which I passed with flying colors.

Later that night I decided I would post about that achievement. When I navigated to the forums I realized I was having trouble logging in (via my mobile phone). This happens often so I figured I would wait. I started browsing, and noticed that @OpticKing started a thread asking whether or not myself and Atmos should be banned.

I thought to myself, “how odd for Mr. King to go out of his way for such a topic. I wonder what prompted the discussion.” I continued reading (and disrobing), and was very amused by the responses. It was like an amazing comedy skit had been created just for me! But after some time the context of the discussion became a bit more clear… and I suddenly realized: “this is not a discussion about whether I should be banned in the future, this is a discussion about how I’m banned right the fk now!”

So it is with great honor that I accept this award, and I would like to give a quick shotout to the folks that made it all possible:

@OpticKing – my fellow Texan and soon to be bestest eBuddy. Thanks for the support brother. I look forward to connecting with you outside the forum. Your posts and arguments in this thread made it easy for me to read everyone else's comments without feeling an urgency to reply. Naturally when someone says something negative about me, my body is ready to react. Yet I couldn’t due to the ban… but then I’d read your posts and feel satisfied; I even went out for Ice Cream after reading a few of your most recent works.

@Hollywood – I don’t think I’ve ever interacted with you before, but it was a splendid surprise to see a new name pop up that has some serious passion and intellect. I loved your posts in this thread. Reading your responses also made it easy to respect the ban despite having folks talk about me in such ways lol

@Applecorp – I’m glad to hear you find some of the antics amusing. I do too! It’s good to meet people with a similar sense of humor.

@vannagirl – I accept your invitation to be family. I also love your idea about the War Room, especially considering that I started out my Forum Warrior days posting on Battle.net’s War Room many years ago. Very fitting choice of words!

@elboffor – you sir, are a badass and when I was first reading some of the posts in this thread I thought of the “safe place” episode from South Park. Then you posted a video about that exact thing. It’s as if you were in my head the entire time!

@Techy111 – completely agree that sharing opinions, no matter how passionate, is much needed. Although I suppose there should be a place better suited for the unfiltered opinion (as vannagirl suggested).

@EliteSPA – thanks for requesting the unban with such enthusiasm

@incrediclint – I too miss the wild west days of internet forums. But I do kinda understand the need for control, since there are so many trolls out there, so-much-so that everyone is calling everyone a troll these days.

@jayhawk – I loved your vote in this Poll.

@zboson – your initial post in this thread was the first time I actually started to reconsider my posting style. Not because I want to change (let’s not get crazy), but because I suddenly felt bad about potentially losing my online connection with folks like you. And then I was mad that Oculus hasn’t updated their Home firmware to allow easier social networking lol

@falken76 – to answer your question, no I never got angry about the ban. The Internet is a big place and I’m fairly active with my personal Facebook account on the official Oculus Page. I’m also a semi-frequent poster at VRTalk.com and VRSpies.com under the same name.

@tranceology3 – you were one of my original rivals on this forum, and despite your vote I did enjoy the things you had to say in this thread.

@Warbloke – I completely agree with the dysfunctional family reference. Very on par with vannagirl’s sentiment. But I guess part of the dysfunction is for Daddy Cyber to make me sleep outside sometimes lol

I remember when I first came to this forum… I was utterly shocked at the vast number of posts/threads condemning Oculus. Everyone was talking about how Oculus was a failure, and anyone who purchased the Rift was a fool, all because of: God Rays, Red Tint, an Xbox Controller, lack of Room-Scale, limited Resolution, limited Field of Vision, Screen Door effect, Facebook and privacy issues, lack of hand-controllers, terrible shipping, terrible support, terrible pre-order process, terrible software titles, Oculus Home (cause it’s not Steam).

It was not what I expected after having received my Rift. The day that beautiful black box was delivered to my doorstep, upon opening it to reveal the Rift inside I realized, “I not only hold the future in my hands, but also the key to other worlds.” It was a pretty great feeling that really makes a person feel happy to be alive in such a day and age.

And all that seemed to go down the drain when I logged on to the official Oculus General Forum in May ‘16. But instead of crying about it, I remembered that I love conflict. Both online, and yes, in-person. So I took it all in and decided to play rough with those who had some very negative things to say about my joyous decision. I never felt like I brought aggression to the field, I feel as though aggression is there (in large quantity) and I simply finger-paint with it while demonstrating extreme enthusiasm.

But now Oculus Touch has been released, and room-scale for the Rift is at our fingertips. So the complaints are few and far between when it comes to condemning both Oculus and its consumers. I do think there should be a more appropriate place for aggressive/passionate voices like myself. Although what I think is even more appropriate is a proper place for Rift-owners-only. I said this about 6 months ago on this forum, and hopefully with the social updates coming to Oculus Home we can achieve that goal sooner rather than later.

For now, I simply look forward to continuing the e-relationship I have with many of you fine folks.

    Cheers!

Hopefully you can curtail your responses to avoid another ban, and keep me from looking like a fool for defending ya.

On a side note - That first pic you posted, I think skeletor has (had?) a "bone" to pick there... How he managed the "come hither" look without eyes is beyond me.
