Zenbane got banned?! Dude's got a real high horse and flaunts his community badges around like we're all second class. I even stopped coming here a few months back because all he ever did was rub it in and call people stupid. Dude deserved it.
Anyway, that's my piece regarding that. I'll say no more on the topic and look forward to actually using the forums again.
I've been a bit busy recently and not had much rift time never mind forum time... but it seems all hell broke loose while I was away?
My view on this is while they didn't bother me personally, I can of course see why some comments they made must antagonise others. Not everyone can brush off comments easily and sometimes take things to heart and get upset. Had the poll had 'should they have received a temporary ban' Id have chosen that...
Obviously certain things said should result in an in an instant ban... that's for moderators to decide. I think when it comes to heated discussions where things get a little bit personal.... again moderators can use their judgement... but there should be some structure to this.
Eg... 3 Warnings > Temporary ban > final warning > perma ban.
To pick up some comments from others above, I support the idea of an ignore button. Out there there are always some people who will be offended by something they see. Rather than trying to judge if and who those people are... let them decided for themselves. If you personally find someones posts upsetting... click ignore... end of your problem.
I also agree this is one of the most fun and open forums Ive seen. We are a big dysfunctional family. In every family there are the naughty children... we all know who they are... do we kick these kids off a cliff Sparta style, or do we tolerate them and love them anyways despite their flaws.... we all have our flaws. (except me... Im perfect)
At the end of the day... their bans need to be temporary. until there is some form of ground rules regarding warning / banning to allow people to learn what is and isn't acceptable then a perma ban suddenly appearing from their perspective as out of nowhere is too extreme.
Lets face it... what crime did they commit to deserve a lifetime punishment ? Be honest... there are people out there who murder folk or worse and don't get a lifetime punishment. So yeh, I don't think its fair to give a lifetime punishment for saying some stuff on a forum that causes some upset.
Just like in a workplace... there can be acts of gross misconduct.... and moderators can decide to accelerate this depending on what was said of course... but for all 'heated debate':
Warn them.... temp ban them of it continues.... (should they even decide they want to post again) if it continues... final warning..... if it continues finally perm ban as repeat offenders and not capable of learning to be better.
Also build some ignore tools. Lets not leave our naughty children in the orphanage over Christmas !
:P

But there is flexibility in how the bans are applied depending on severity or persistence. In zenbane's case it wasn't the first warning, and that doesn't include the unofficial warnings and requests for change that were posted in threads, also the thread closures and the comment deletion that mods had to start doing in order to keep threads on track.
Cyber has said these bans may not be permanent so you'll have to read into that what you will. But basically you really need to work hard to get yourself a permanent ban.

One question....Have they got a warning before ban? I got the solution for Atmos, make a Vive Threat and thats the only place he can post and for Zenbane find him a GF, problem solved, Im a genius :p

I think you can easily replace temporary ban there, for a few warnings. Zenbane got multiple warnings. I don't see any reason to use Cybereality's forgiving attitude for justifying his unbanning now. Multiple warnings. That's enough, really.
Not an Oculus hater, but not a fan anymore.
Still lots of respect for the team-Carmack, Abrash.
Oculus is driven by big corporation principles now. That brings painful effects already, more to come in the future. This is not the Oculus I once cheered for.

They were warned multiple times (mods and admin) but kept at it. Then their offending posts were removed, but even that wasn't enough of a hint and they kept at it. Zenbane's responses made it clear he had no intention of stopping if all we did was keep warning. It wasn't a spur of the moment thing and wasn't just 1 or 2 mods getting pissy about a couple of posts.
I like Zenbane, he has done a lot of good on here overall, but I wish he wasn't so antagonistic with everybody. I also don't mind Vive owners on here, Atmos had some good threads on general VR stuff, but it seemed too much like he was rubbing our faces in every Vive success rather than just providing useful info.
But regardless, we have rules on here, and the consequences are known. While we try to be lenient, there's limits.
The important thing to remember is that this isn't a free-for-all general purpose unbiased VR forum. It's the official support and developer forum for a company that has launched a premium consumer product in a very niche market. A lot of new people are coming here for help. Some angry at problems, some without as much computer knowledge as the rest of us. We need to be tolerant. No matter how much fun some of us think watching arguments and insults is, this isn't the place. There are other more appropriate places for that kind of behavior. Not every communication channel needs to become the Youtube comments section.
It would be cool if they could come back and make a positive contribution. We're all here for VR afterall, that's something everybody on here has in common.
Anyway, my blade is thirsting for Delilah's blood, time to alt-tab back to Dishonored 2. :)

I think we all are aware of your zeal to keep zenbane from being unbanned, Ronson. it doesn't change other peoples opinions though, your stance on the issue is duly noted.
