Question

Did Zenbane and Atmos73 deserve the ban hammer?

Title says it all, just curious to see the communities opinion.

@kojack You are correct there, however warblokes previous post still has relevance. They have been warned plenty and did continue, but it wasn't directly in opposition to the warnings. Generally when they were warned, they would tone it down as requested, the problem was that they would just pick it back up an hour later on another topic in another thread. The ban should teach them that the warnings are not idle threats. That should serve to initiate them filtering out their responses, allowing things to become once more copacetic, whilst retaining the positive contributions to the forum.

I'm wondering if he got pissed over the ban and sold off his Rift really.

Hell no, are you serious? He sleeps with that thing. It has its own pillow.

Yes I'm serious.  A fanboi that gets banned by the brand he was a fanboi of could certainly stir up emotions and he seemed to respond that way in posts.  I don't think he bought a vive, but I'll bet he considered selling his rift.  He was told to take his toys and go home, an emotional response to that would be what I'd expect to follow.

Sorry, was just proving a point, perhaps read his post again and take my reply in context.  You can't simply ignore somebody on a forum that is being obnoxious or insulting, it pulls people in and alters the direction of the thread but not in a good way..

That's a fault of the forum software, where is the ignore button that was common over a decade ago?  You wouldn't even see any of the "ignored" posters posts

And if they still act up after that, they get the ultimate punishment!

Atmos is banned from the Vive and can only use the Rift.

Zenbane has to get in an argument with a mirrored version of himself - an argument that will last forever in time.

One quick thing I want to say in regards to Atmos73 after reading the rest of this thread. I'm not going to defend his behavior, but I believe a different perspective might be useful, cause there doesn't seem to be many that understand his side of things.

Back when I joined these forums around release day, I only had a Vive (my Rift was delayed from March to May) and initially I wanted the rift to be my first VR experience, and only bought the Vive because I saw it and after a while said...shit I don't want to miss out on that. (I also was lucky enough to have the disposable income to get both). Well I got the Vive first, and was completely blown away by 360 tracking and motion controls. So when I started seeing people on this forum bashing it while having little to no actual experience with it, I started posting my experience and counter points. (even after I got my rift and all).

Naturally this led to some arguments, and some heated debates and insult slug fests with zenbane and others of what I would consider his "circle" (not all of whom were as insulting or disrespectful in 1 on 1 convos and discussions, but they tended to bolster each other up when together). Though overall I don't believe I ever actually bashed the rift so to speak, I would point out where I felt it had short comings or limitations. (maybe I did once in response to one of zenbane's nintendo vive comments when things got heated)

I got carried away in my own flame war with Zenbane for a week or so, and in isolated incidents here and there, sometimes we would call a truce, sometimes it would be broken. Overall though after a while it got annoying and ridiculous. I got to a point where I said, well the mods clearly don't care or want to enforce the rules, and if Zenbane is getting away with it, why should I care? and shortly after that I really stopped caring either way and stopped posting almost altogether.

So on to Atmos - He and I naturally shared alot of the same experience and opinions on controversial matters, and it was refreshing to find at least a few people on this forum that would actually give me the time of day when talking about my opinions on VR and "roomscale" or motion controls or whatever. I had the pleasure of playing a good amount of Onward with him on Steam, and just like most people, 1 on 1 he is a fine, sensible guy.

Before his and Zenbane's flame war, and from what I saw his posts weren't inflammatory or baiting, maybe a bit counter opinion, but as someone who went from a DK2 to a Vive on an oculus forum that is expected. Getting on though, I didn't see things get bad until his arguments with Zenbane began. He reached that same point I did months ago, where he probably said to himself, well F*ck it. If his behavior is tolerated ill return it in kind.

Which began the whole mess we are now posting about. In my opinion , while I am not excusing his behavior - it was certainly not necessary and it was meant to bait and throw gas on the fire (and he had any number of opportunities to calm it down) - I view it as reactionary to Zenbane and co's treatment of anyone who had differing opinions about the Rift or even liked the Vive. Zenbane's bad behavior went on as long as I have been a member of these forums, Atmos' bad behavior only started much later.

In any case, that is just my two cents as someone who has been on the other side of the fence on these forums. I think it's a better place now that certain people have been banned, and I would like to see it become more inclusive of differing products and opinions, and not see personal attacks over what HMD you fancy or how much space you think you need for VR.

PS - this was not quick at all. apologies

Added a like for the use of copacetic. We don't hear that word enough these days. I think I'll use it at work on Monday. :)

I think you could unban them in the new year for a new start with a final warning "any **** up = perma ban". At least some of their posts were contributing to the forums apart from the childish wars.
