Hi everyone and the Meta Team,

I am writing this post with a lot of hope, a bit of nerves, and a big dream. My name is David, I am a student from Romania, and I am absolutely fascinated by technology, gaming, and the future of virtual reality.

For a long time now, I’ve been following everything Meta does. When the Meta Quest 3S was announced, I was incredibly excited. To me, VR isn’t just about playing games—it’s a gateway to learning, exploring places I’ve never been, and experiencing technology in a way that feels like science fiction come to life.

Unfortunately, the reality of living in Romania makes it incredibly difficult to reach this dream. Due to the local economy and high prices relative to our average incomes, a VR headset is considered a massive luxury here. As a student, I don't have my own income, and my family has to prioritize everyday living expenses and my education. Saving up for something like a Quest 3S feels almost impossible right now, and it’s honestly tough when your biggest passion feels completely out of reach just because of where you live.

I know this is a huge shot in the dark, and I know Meta is a massive company that probably gets thousands of messages like this. I’m not looking for a handout for no reason, but I wanted to share my genuine story and passion. If there is any program, a giveaway, a refurbished unit, or any way the Meta community or team could help a dedicated student experience VR, it would honestly change my world.

Even if nothing comes from this post, I want to thank the Meta team for creating technology that inspires kids like me to dream big. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this.

With respect and hope,

David

Monty Python Sketch: The Ministry of Not Asking for a Handout

CAST:

David - earnest Romanian student, radiating hope and mild panic

Clerk #1 - bureaucrat with the energy of a deflated balloon

Clerk #2 - aggressively cheerful

Sir Reginald Handout‑Prevention Officer - pompous, overdecorated official

Chorus of Meta Employees - optional, but they sing badly

Scene 1: The Ministry Lobby

David enters a grand hall filled with filing cabinets, each labelled "NOT A HANDOUT." Clerks stamp papers violently.

Clerk #1: Name?

David: David. I'm a student from Romania, fascinated by technology, gaming, and the future of VR.

Clerk #1: Lovely. Purpose of visit?

David: Well… I'm not looking for a handout for no reason.

The entire room GASPS. A siren blares. A giant sign lights up: "HANDOUT ALERT."

Clerk #2 (cheerfully): Oh splendid! We haven't had one of those in minutes.

Scene 2: Sir Reginald Arrives

Sir Reginald bursts in, wearing 47 medals and a cape made of warranty cards.

Sir Reginald: Who dares utter the Forbidden Phrase?

David: I swear, I'm not asking for a handout! I'm simply… sharing my passion for VR, the economic struggles of Romania, and the impossibility of affording a Quest 3S.

Sir Reginald: Ah yes, the classic "I'm not asking for a handout while describing the exact circumstances in which a handout would be lovely" maneuver.

Scene 3: The Examination

Clerks circle David, inspecting him like a suspicious melon.

Clerk #1: Do you dream big?

David: Yes.

Clerk #2: Do you admire Meta?

David: Very much.

Sir Reginald: Do you, at any point, mention giveaways, refurbished units, or "any way the team could help"?

David: Possibly.

The clerks faint.

Scene 4: The Verdict

Sir Reginald: Young man, after careful review, we have determined that you are… (dramatic drumroll) …ABSOLUTELY asking for a handout.

David: But I said I wasn't!

Sir Reginald: Yes, yes - and we admire the craftsmanship. Very subtle. Very polite. Very Romanian‑student‑with‑a‑dream. But the Ministry is trained to detect even the faintest whiff of "please give me a free headset."

Scene 5: The Twist

The Meta Employee Chorus enters, singing off‑key.

Chorus:

🎵 He's not asking for a handout,
He's just asking for a thing,
But not in a handout‑y manner,
Except for everything. 🎵

Sir Reginald: Silence! Young David, we cannot give you a headset. However… (He hands David a single sheet of paper.)

Sir Reginald: We can give you this certificate: "Officially Not Asking for a Handout (While Definitely Asking for a Handout)"

David: Thank you… I think?

Scene 6: Finale

David exits. The clerks immediately begin stamping again.

Clerk #1: Next!

Clerk #2: Who's here?

A man enters holding a sign that reads: "I AM ASKING FOR A HANDOUT."

Sir Reginald: Ah! Refreshingly honest. Give him two.
