Question

Far Cry 5

Anybody been playing it - what are your thoughts? I don't want to really discuss the "political" aspects of this game because they are superficial at best and honestly not really worth discussing.

I am about 8 hours in (I had all of yesterday off, woohoo!!!) - I am not going to put any spoilers in this thread. But hot damn - I haven't really enjoyed a Far Cry game since the first one - but FC5 is just brilliant.

I have read the reviews - and yes there are problems with the gameplay in as far as there are lots of systems interacting with each other all the time. It is a game where you don't really have a moments rest - and the story / narrative isn't as deep as it possibly could be. It is closer to the farcical GTA series than it is to anything more serious - which is a bit of a shame because the setting is very well realized and interesting to explore, but it doesn't feel dangerous or creepy very often and I think that is a missed mark.

However it is just extremely fun to play. Before it was released I was picked up Far Cry 3 where I last left off (Vaas kicking me into a hole with a cement block tied around my feet). I played it for about two hours - and just became bored with it. I was worried that my pre-order of Far Cry 5 would end up being a mistake purchase that I'd want to refund before long. But it is not - the gameplay mechanics, environment and mission design are all superb and it is sustaining my interest completely.

So far I am about 75% done John Seed's area - and am planning on completing it 100% before moving on to the next area.

Pregnant women, always a liability.  You know if there's some kind of disaster or accident they're going to go into labor.

Actually when I wrote that post I didn't know their story was going to continue, so I wasn't talking about the labor part.

    What pissed me off was:
Nick made the (sensible) comment that family is more important than a house, he wanted to move away to keep Kim and the baby safe.
Then we have a giant firefight at their house. Cultists swarming in with heavy weapons, storming the house trying to reach Kim.
In the aftermath, the house would be partially shredded, corpses everywhere, a cougar in the house (Peaches) and Nick and Kim had the knowledge that a crazy religious leader (just a few km away) with thousands of psycho worshipers knows that they stole back the plane and killed their squads.
So of course Kim says she wants to stay.
Nick was the one who grew up there and he wasn't so attached to the place that he'd risk his unborn kid's safety for the sake of property.

You'd think at the very least Nick and Kim could fly out and let the relevant authorities know what's happening. :)

Only pancake game i'm playing is Kingdom Come Deliverance. Best game i've played in years, ACO was pretty much the same as the rest for me nothing new, so no motivation to play it. That's the problem with these series is they can get too similar..That's what put me off FC5 & was the same with FC4 just feels old already to me ill probably pick it up though.

I am looking forward to Kingdom Come Deliverance very much - wish it was in VR.

I haven't played an Assassin's Creed game fully since the first one - and though I have 3 and 4 (free giveaways on Uplay last year I think) and played them a couple hours each I got bored with the game play mechanics, though I may give 3 try and finish the 3rd one because I liked the setting. From what I understand ACO has RPG mechanics and again I like the look of the setting so I will likely get it on sale.

I never played FC4 or Primal - but with regards to 5 I have enjoyed it much more than 3 or Blood Dragon (I beat Blood Dragon, and I think I am like half way through the 3rd which I do plan on beating). Now there are issues with FC5 - as I have gotten deeper into it the narrative just seems more impossible and not just unlikely and even though the icons on the map are self discovered it is the same basic icon hunting as any Ubi game just presented differently.

But in spite of that - I am still having a blast, SkyrimVR has taken some time away from it for sure - but I am about half way done Faith's area and still having tons of fun every time I play. It is kind of like a really good 80s action movie - you just have to shut off your brain so that all the implausibilities don't get in the way.
